| I Think I got it nailed, Susan. If this works then I'll go back and put the right "stuff" in. What I did was log on, go to Weekly Photo Challenge and then click on "Add a new topic" -

YaY - it worked - so here it is.
Photo: COVERED BRIDGE, submitted by user SALSTEAD
Challenge: Create artwork based on the photo. Use any medium and any style. Stick to the photo exactly or just use it as a starting point - feel free to change colors, composition, add or subtract elements or take a complete departure.
Target posting date: November 15, 2009

Hi Susan - I just thought it wouldn't hurt to try - wish I could have figured out how to format it right.
Priti suggested that there are maybe several pictures in this one photo and I sort of agree. Priti wondered if you had a photo of just the bridge. If you do, why don't you post it here for her.

| A close up of the same bridge in the picture. We found about 80 covered bridges last month, I have more amazing pictures. |

Susan - for future reference (- but please don't do it for this one - both pictures together are great -) you can log on and go to your post and click on edit. When it comes up, there is a delete button beside your attached pictures - down near the bottom where it lists the current attachments, etc. Then you just need to save changes or submit or something like that.
Love the pics and I'm going to try it - or at least a part of it. I'm sort of in my "oil pastel phase" right now so I will probably try it with OP's.

I am so unhappy that I still don't have a printer  . The autumn colors are beautiful here. I am stuck with my water soluble oils. I still can't do the details ---Suna. |

Suna - take lots of pictures - save your pennies for your new printer - and practice, practice, practice - I'm still foundering around with the oil pastels but I'm having fun doing it.  Making mistakes means I'm learining something (even if it is just how not to do that again!) and that's a good thing! I'm sure there is a big difference in holding a brush and holding a pastel stick that takes a lot of getting used to. I'm going the opposite direction and it feels strange.

| Holland, you are very succesfull with both acrylics and oil pastels. Yes, it's a big difference to change the medium. I have to practice a lot as you say. You also say, success is a journey; yes, I enjoy while practicing and this is what I want to achieve. I will join you later; it's a nice group of artists here. ---Suna. |

Hi - sketchreed - it's not really a competition - it's just a really fun weekly (or so) challenge for anyone who wants to try in what ever medium you like. The more who participate the more fun it is - really neat to see all the different interpretations of the same photo - and we all learn lots from each other. Just jump in and post your picture when you are ready. Welcome to our little world of challenges.

All right, here's a rough draft for my entry. I wasn't exactly how to insert the image into here, so I added it as an attachment. Hopefully it works.
Critique and advice is appreciated. I'm 17 with only 9 years of experience, so I still have a lot to learn. This is only a rough draft too, so give me some good advice.

Sketchreed - congrats on being the first to post on this challenge - love your bridge. What size is it? It looks like watercolor and ink - right? My experience as an artist is limited so I will let others comment.

| Abstract watercolor on canvas, 12 x 16. No matter what I did, I just couldn't do a realistic picture, so I finally just let the hand go freely. Much fun last night but picture is a bit wild. |

Thanks for all your encouragement. The piece is 6x8, and I used a Faber-Castell Pitt big brush pen for the outlining and watercolors for the coloring. That was just a rough draft though...I'll post the final piece sometime soon.
