Here is a commission, I would like to share with you all.  I completed with just moments to spare before Christmas!

It is from an old photo from the 1950's.  The customer was thrilled with the results.  If you would like to see the reference photo and the work in progress, please visit my blog at www.dianewrightfineart.com/wip.htm or

click on this link: Polk City Barn II - Commission

I really worked to build the dark and mid values in this drawing.  By identifying the darkest areas first, I was then able to adjust the rest of the buildings accordingly.  I have a tendency to work too light so this was a challenge.

Enjoy!

Diane

Sorry for such a late reply to you all. I've been busy with the holidays and getting ready for my first PUBLIC show at a local Barnes & Noble (artist of the month) - in Des Moines IA. I've got 17 framed artwork ready to go on display and I will be there on the weekends doing drawing demos.

Thank you OWS - landscapes are all about textures, contrast and perspective! I guess that's why I enjoy
doing them so much!!! The challenge of getting all of those elements to work together!

Thank you Heather.

Jim - thanks. Patience is a tough one. Since I have little patience, I strive to develop techniques to keep the tediousness to a minimum. For example, the leaves on the trees are a scribble mark. It works well to represent leaves without have to meticulously draw each and every leaf. For me it is all about creating textures to 'represent' objects.
