| Very nice, close likeness. You might have the eye shapes off a little, and I see the overall shape of the head, should be more , like a rectangle, instead of an oval. Good job! |

I know that when I work on a drawing of any kind portrait or still or landscape...I find the errors myself when posting it on the computer screen. I think it is because we are looking at it at more of a distance and it flattens more....something? Donna your work is fine in your style. I love the shading of the skin tones, they're wonderful, Don't give up on this one, (unless the paper is fraying) Straight lines across the tops of his eyes(not so round) and bring down the corners of the mouth...I don't really see anything too bad in the shape of his head. You study this more before ditching it. I think you have something here. Don't let it go. Rosie |

Rosie, Thanks for the suggestions & kind words. I actually threw this one away. It was the paper... If you had seen it in its original state you wouldn't wonder why the paper didn't stand up. The fresh start is coming along slowly due to lack of time but will soon have nearly 2 weeks off for very minor foot surgery which gives me the perfect excuse to sit & draw. Donna |

Well, the foot thing sounds like no fun.... but as you say, the positive side is the chance to sit and draw! Good luck on your recovery and I'm looking forward to seeing the new piece. Mike |

Thanks Mike...the prospect of getting to draw as much as I want , makes the surgery seem not so bad. Will try to post a progress pic soon. Donna |

Hi Daffy, You have made the lines around his eyes and inside his mouth too dark. Refer to the image before this one. Also he could use a little more chin. Keep drawing it's coming along nicely. Kassie |

Kassie, Thanks...I've looked at it so much I began to second guess everything. Sometimes I guess I just need to put it aside for a day or two & then try again. Donna |

Hi Donna, I'm thinking that the irises of his eyes are too large? I also agree with Kassie on the heavy lines on his eyes... I like to step away from them and get a 'fresh' look after a day or two...another thing I've found helpful is looking at it in a mirror. Just my thoughts... Don't give up on him, you're almost there! Mike |

Mike, Thanks....I went back & looked & you are both right. I don't have a good place to look at it in a mirror but I have started using my photo software to mirror the image & that really works better for me since I can have the image up on the computer while making the adjustments. I also figured out that I can put the ref photo & the drawing side by side in Microsoft word & put a table over it to create a graph. It has helped a lot. The lines around the eyes really aren't quite as dark as the scan made them appear but I did lighten them some. Well, back to the drawing board... Donna |

Donna,
You seem to have corrected most of the previous problems quite well. I do think however that the nose could be made a little thinner.
