This one started out tobe a sketch for a carved corbal, but not having the wood I stored it away for a couple of years and ran acrossed this spring...finished it as a drawing and in passing showed it to my husbands boss (who is big into gunstocks) He gave me a 8 ft 3"x12" piece of black walnut, it is beatiful, now cut into 4 pieces lightly planed and ready for gluing up.  This will be and outdoors project since black walnut saw dust is so heavy to breathe.

Are you saying you will carve this into the black walnut?

I'm curious too. This is lovely; if you can carve this as well, I would love to see the end result. How talented you are!

Yes, I will carve it, but I cheat.  I use a bandsaw and die grinder and dremel.

Go back to the original sketch prior to ivy...in my mind go 3-d draw him from all angles, cutting templates to transfer onto the wood, cutting the arms and legs at one thickness on the bandsaw, shaping them with the die grinder leaving a flat spot on the back to dowel to the body which is thicker and pre-shaped as the arms and legs.  Then Before lobbing off an ear or finger in haste...I wait...regroup, take my mind off of it for awhile draw another project or two before going back...It took me years to figure that out.

I should show some, I don't know if I have any photos on this computer, My husband and I are in a gray area right now, his work has transfered him and I 400 miles away from our stuff.

I found one...theres not a lot of detail in this one...it was an idea from the downspouts of notre dane, the kids put a note in his mouth.  The wings open to store secret...the only thing in there are the original drawings...that I show everyone, no big secret.
