Hi all..... Thank you so much for your positive feedback when I posted this in it's early stage. I think it's finished.....but I wanted to post and get your opinions. Hope the picture goes thru OK. We just got a new computer and it's frustratingly difficult to try to figure my way around the new photo program. I've been corrected.....these are Alstromeria (Peruvian lilies) not orchids as I originally suspected. It is an 11x14 stippling picture done with Staedtler pigment liners. And it took almost 4 months exactly to complete. Crits and comments welcome Jess

Well it didn't translate as well as I'd hoped. The left side of the picture is a much darker than shown here. But the right side is pretty accurate. I'll try to figure out how to post it again.

Jess,
This is a very nice piece. You must have a lot of patience to spend four months on it.
I just know that you will excel in colored pencils.

Hi Jess,
It’s beautiful! How many projects do you have going at any one time?

Thanks to all for your wonderful comments!

Leon.....unfortunately, I only work on one project at a time. I used to work on multiple projects, but I found that I would focus of the one that was going well at the time and I'd lose interest in the others and never get around to finishing them. (My husband started complaining about all the unfished "stuff" hanging around.) So I decided....NO new projects until the current one is finished! I may have to rethink that idea again though......my cousin saw this picture and is thinking about commissioning me to do a stippling picture for him. I just got my new Prisma CP's and I don't think I can put them on hold for another 4 months!

Ron, thanks for the vote of confidence. And for your advice on the pencils. So far, I think they're great. I probably WILL get the Verithins at some point.....I LOVE detail work!

Jess, this turned out beautifully! Colored pencils are definitely for you if you love detail! Would love to see the Altsromeria in color once you get going with the CPs - they're one of my favorite flowers!

Jess, your patience is amazing, your stippling is beautiful, it would be even better when you start the CP project I am sure. On the subject of multiple projects, I've heard that if you work on multiple projects it would be better since you can always work on the others if you are bored with one.

How many colors did you use, and which ones? I work like you... one painting at a time... nothing else until it is done. Claudia

Your work leaves me speechless and in awe! I can just stare at them for long periods of time, soaking in all of the detail. Absolutely beautiful! May I suggest one thing? Tear out your paper and tape it all around to a drawing board before drawing. This way when you frame them (and you should!), the mat will hide the least amount, if any, of the drawing. Can't wait to see more!!!

WOW! Thank you so much jang, Frank, Anna, LMP01, Claudia & Kim!! I've been at the hospital with my husband all day in Boston (he was having back surgery) and it was awesome to come home and read your wonderful comments. Thank you thank you! You made my day!

Claudia....it was done with only BLACK pigment liner pens. Black dots on white paper. I typically do not stipple in color.......HOWEVER.....I just recently saw an advertisment that Prismacolor just came out with a line of colored pigment liners!!! Just when I think I've finished stippling for a while......they suck me back in!!! I may have to check those out.

Kim....I WISH I had done this picture on board instead of paper. Not sure what I was thinking. But I keep it in my sketchbook because .....with my 2 and 4 year olds running around, I can quickly close the sketchbook and leave it on my desk without worrying that they might ruin it. There are times where I only have a few minutes at a time to work and it's just quick and portable.

Thanks again to all!

Jess,
Your work is very beautiful. Stippling is an exact science as well as art. Your skill and talent is so obvious that CP's will be a breeze for you I am sure! Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks Heather!

CP's are actually harder for me than I expected. I see your point.....blending can be difficult. At least, it is for me. But I've got some advice from the people here on books that might help me. Wish me luck....I'm off to the eye doctor. I've been having problems with my left eye. Called the doctor this morning and they said I may have a detatched retina! Hopefully NOT!!! Thanks again for your comments Heather.

Jess,
I don't visit this forum often enough. Your work is remarkable!
Every bit of praise you recieved up above is well deserved. I could
not do what you do. I lack the patience. I'm glad that you do. Otherwise
an art form with this kind of beauty would just die out.
Thank you very much for showing this.
