I'm trying figures for a while, and look where I started! I read some lessons from David Leffel and go thru an anatomy book and here I go.

Politics aside, nice rendering. You captured his expression perfectly. Great facial tones. Jim

Jim Thanks for your kind words. I still have a few tweaks, but I'm almost finished with it.

| Hi Bill, I assume you did this from a photo, right? You certainly captured the expression both in the eyes and in the mouth............I love the various colors you used in the face. Good painting. Gene |

Bill,
Do you perhaps have him leaning a bit more to the left than would be natural?
You said we could talk about composition, after all.

Update: Around Christmas, I sent a print of this down to the White House with a Merry Christmas letter, saying that I'd be thrilled to send the original if they'd like to have it.
Well, a young lady from the White House called today and said they'd like me to send the original down. She couldn't guarantee it, but she thinks it will go into one of the libraries!
How about them apples!

Very nice! I like the colors and simple strokes on this. I wish that I could work loose like you have here, it makes a painting much more interesting...not someone that I would choose to paint , but very well done! Congrats!!!!! Mike

| Wow, having a painting go into a presidential library is a great feather in your hat! Congratulations. And by the way, you have definitely captured the look on the president's face. Especially in the eyes, I think. Great work.............Gene |

Bill, You are really good at capturing the essence of your subjects, e.g. "Carol with Flowers" and "Redheads in the woods". This painting of "W" is a very good likeness, and, especially in your final version, you captured his vacant expression perfectly!
As always, I'm impressed! Jodi

Update 2
Around Christmas, I sent a print of this down to the White House with a Merry Christmas letter, saying that I'd be thrilled to send the original if they'd like to have it.
Aa young lady from the White House called and said they'd like me to send the original down. She couldn't guarantee it, but she thinks it will go into one of the libraries.
I sent it down in mid January.
I received a letter signed by the President today:
If you can't read it, it says
Dear Bill:
Thank you for your beautiful painting. I appeciate your kind gesture and thoughtfulness.
Laura and I send our best wishes. May God bless you and may God bless America.
Sincerely,
George W. Bush

This is really nice Bill...congratulations!
...I met Barbara Bush last summer in Maine. Not because I'm anybody special (in the world's eyes)...but we were standing side by side at an antique sale table...kind words were exchanged and as we kept our eyes on the doodads for sale on the little table...she said, "...pray for my boy." and I said, "...I take it as a charge."
I also met that week the wife of an artist who says they come in to buy art for gifts frequently...so know they appreciate art as a family.
I hope some of the vitriule will stop in our country...I wish people knew that when they say or repeat things that are unfounded...they tear at our very fabric. |
