This is one I have done and tried to put reflections in.  I think I am getting it.  although I find the paint is drying to fast.  What would be the best thing to use with acrylics to slow down the drying time?  I have heard of liquid white.  But i am not sure if it is used to lighten your colors or slow down the drying time.

Thank you,  Suzanna

Beautiful painting. Just needs some white reflections at the very bottom. Maybe a couple of sky blue flecks in the distant water. Doesn't need reflections in this one. Can't help you with retarding drying time. that's why I switched to oil. Kathy

I don't know well about acrylic but, there are some mediums you can add to it to slow drying time. This is a good painting but a bit too symetrical. My suggestion is, you could put some more trees to one side of it. The colors are very nice and calming.--- Suna.

Hi Suzanna,
Very nice work. Remember that water needs to be flat. It may just be the way your photographed this one or how you cropped it but the water looks like it's running down hill to the left. Maybe some more darks in the rocks and grass.Bring the rocks right up to the waterfall to hold them in. Your water below looks to swift. Put some solid areas in to denote a little calmer area away from the falls.
You can use a gel medium to retard the drying time of acrylics that can be mixed with your paint or put onto the canvas. White would wash out your colors.

All the best,
Jim

Hi OhSuzanna
Yes I think you are getting it for sure. I like the colors you have chosen. They have made the pictures come to life. Very pleasing to the eye.
Jim is right . The water is flat. I think it all depends on where you were standing when you took your perspective. If you were on a hilll you would be looking down at what you see. Therefore it would be correct i
As for as keeping the paint from drying out.
I have a mist bottle beside me all the time. I always keep misting the canvas as I am working plus I mist the paint on my pallette. You can extend the drying time with and extender. It is a clearn liguid and is a called * Extender * or you can buy a gel. They come in the little bottles that are with the craft paint.
I cover my paints when not in use and store them covered in the fridge or freezer if I don't get back to it the same day. You and also buy http://www.acrylic-painting-techniques.com/acrylic_paint_palette.htm This will explain what I am trying to say.
Hope this is some help to you Ohsuzanna
Johanna ps. Sometime I even give the back of the canvas a mist.

Another way to work longer in acrylics is to underpaint the portion you are working on with gesso. It gives you a while to work before it dries and you are able to blend colors right on the canvas like oils...Gel gives the acrylic more body so it is more like oil, but gesso does not...if you are going for more of a watercolor effect....

The foreground water in front of the waterfall needs to come forward.  It looks like it is on the same plane as the water in the background. Try adding more white and less gray to the water.  Add more saturated blues to make the foreground water pop.
