The bamboo frame is part of the painting and not a real frame.

This is absolutely stunning!! Is this from a japanese woodblock print, or your own design?
Either way, just a beautiful piece of work! Do you know what it says? I'll ask my mom if she can
read it.
Thanks for posting this!

All the best,
Jim

Thank you Jim. This is all my own design except  I got the  idea for the frame from a similar one I had seen years ago in a craft store. As for the Kanji , I went to a Kanji web site and I am hoping what it says on the right top is something about a beautiful lady meeting a crane with a joyful clapping of hands and bottom left should be my signature "Pearl"
If your Mom can read it I would like to know just what it does say so please let me know what she says. I have been worried that perhaps I might be saying something not quite polite.

It's interesting you asking if this was from a wood block print as this is sort of a new version of a wood block  like painting I did in 2001,  using gouache as a resit and then painting over with India ink , see below. This one also is my own design.

Pearl, these are both beautiful. It's exciting that Jim's mom is able to read your most recent and let you know if you've got it correct (I imagine that you do.) I like how you've incorporated the bamboo into the painting. Very nice work.

Kathy and Kim.. I thank you both both very much for your nice comments .This is actually my first all acrylic painting as I usually just use the medium in a mixed media project.

Hi Pearl,
Sorry I took so long to get back to you. My Mom couldn't make out the middle characters but she says the first one is the symbol for "woman" and the bottom one is "welcome". My mom wasn't sure but she said something about the symbols might be chinese. It sounds like your translation is right on though!

All the best,
Jim

The top of the frame symbolically states "Japan". It is a sunrise. Having lived in Japan for five years I offer some comments on konji. The konji script does not translate its meaning as directly as English. An excellent example is the konji for Japan. Two characters are used: Ni=Sun and Hon=Beginning. Sun begining=sunrise=Nippon=Japan

Lung Tom: Lung is Thai for "Uncle" the u is pronounced as a oo as in loose.
