This is a painting of two statues on our boardwalk in downtown Olympia. It's called the kiss. See if you can figure out why. lol!!. It's pretty small for me, it's 5 X 7 on canvas. I'm doing some affordable smaller works for our Wooden Boat Association show in May. I've included a photo of the statues that I used as reference.
Please let me know what you think!
Thanks!

Hi, Jim,
I like the way your painting captures the nature of the rough forms of the statue without being a photographic copy of the statue. I feel as if you've actually translated the statue into a painting rather than just copying the painting. (Hope I'm making sense.) Is that what you had in mind?

Hi Claire, I tried to breath a little more life into these two while still letting people know that they are statues. Over emphasizing the ladies hand I think went a little to far. I need to make it a little smaller to not give it that cartoon affect. Thank you for your kind comments. |

Hi Jim: Very nice, I like the way you handled it, and that hand does not bother me. That's an unusual statue, you don't see too many in that roughly hewn form. You're on a roll. Keep up the good work.

Hi Hal! Thanks for your kind words. Just trying to get as many small pieces of a local flavor done before Mothers Day. That's the weekend for the Wooden Boat Festival in downtown Olympia. What do you have in the works? Thanks again!

Hi Jim I just posted a piece of my soapstone in the sculpting section. I have done a few pieces on canvas but nothing worth posting. If you wannna have a peek at it. Good to see your determination. It is paying off. Johanna |

Hi Jim: I don't have anything that I'm working on now, too busy with other things. However, I have signed up for a 5 day class on Acrylic Painting that is being given at the local Art Assoc. It will be the first time they have had one here. Most of the time the workshops turn out to be on Watercolors, which I've never done, nor been interested in. All of my past art that you've seen have been in Acrylics, but I've had very little formal training in their use. So, I figure I'll go and see how other people do it, and learn something.

HI Hal, Good for you! Anyone can learn something from anyone. Even one little tip can make an improvement in how your art looks. Have fun with your workshop! Maybe you will even teach something to someone else. |

Well thank you Priti, I like this one alot, but I've got others in watercolor, pastels, oils and right here in acrylics that I think are far better, but to each his or her own. |
