I just wanted to try something a little different and this painting just kept morphing on me. I started an abstract piece using a water cleanable oil paint. Didn't like it and just blended all the paints into one dark green background. I let it dry and just used pastels and acrylics on top of it just going with what I saw in the background. This is what I came up with. I call it a different path. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Jim

Great painting Jim. But the acylic may not hold up over the oil paint background.

Hi Jim

I love this . There is something about a path in the woods. You want to go and see what's around the corner. I can almost hear the birds chirping. And you did a great job with the colors.

Nice job, Jim. I like the lights leading into the path. I just started using water-soluble oils myself. Have had just one class and am not sure what I think, yet................Gene

Thank you Gene.
These water soluble paints are made by Grumbacher, so I think
I got a good quality product. I'm just not comfortable yet working
with them. I'll just keep experimenting and see what happens.
Thanks!

Hi Jim: The whole thing is beautifully mystical. The colors and shading make it a bit spellbinding. About oil over acrylic, I have read that is not a good idea. Visa versa is what I read in one of my books. I hope my book overstated the possible problems.

Hi Burt,
Thanks for you comments. It is acrylics over water based oil paints,
so I hope it works out. So far so good.

Hey, Jim, this is neat. Great work with color and strokes.
I was inclined to look at it upside down and it looks great that way, too.
I love how you're not afraid to experiment!

Thanks Kim.
I had to laugh at you looking at my painting upside down until
I turned it upside down. It's not half bad that way either! Kinda
looks like you're in a cave with stalagmites hanging down with water below.
Thanks for the tip.

Hi, Jim.  I saw this in Art News magazine this weekend.  It reminded me of "A Different Path."  Hopefully we'll see you in print.

i commend ya jim, for playing outside of the box! many of us tend to hold back a bit too much!...

you shouldnt have any problem with it being stable, as the oil was water soluble oils....if they werent i would say nooo! and i have seen and know artists who work with pastels and acrylics on the same piece also cp! and works nicely.....
