Hello. I am taking a break from deserts for a while. We have a cabin in Northern Arizona. Recently, while visiting there, I took these photos in a town called Strawberry. I am not sure if I am done are not. I also was thinking about Shades of Autumn for a title but have not decided on that either. I would welcome feedback and critique. Thanks, Lucy.

Lucy,
This is simply wonderful!
It is always nice to take a break from what you normally do..with you it's desert scenes, me beach scenes.
Naming a painting can be a little tricky.
Sometimes you have the title in mind before you even begin, others it jump out at you right when yo finish...and then sometimes you haven't got a clue, but the painting look's great...then what do you do.
Like you, I've been know to ask people just to get some input..I've also been know to temporarily name a painting and change or modified the name later it later, on a few occasions the temp name stays and the painting sells, so I don't have to worry about it any longer.

Looking at your painting I'd say either "Autumn Light" or "Autumn Afternoon" (depending on about what time of day this is)

This is just beautiful. What I especially love is that you didn't try to get TOO much color into your leaves. This is so real-looking without going too bright with the oranges. Great painting. Gene

Thank you so much for the feedback. I agree about the naming and appreciate the suggestions. As for Gene's comment about not getting too bright with the leaves, I appreciate that as well as I was wondering if I should have pushed them a bit brighter! I find these forums so helpful in their feedback. Lucy.

Hi Lucy,
This is lovely. There is a lot of movement through this piece, I love the details in the rocks and water and you have handled the colors very well. I have steered away from a lot of the oranges because I end up with a mess. Would be interested in process for you tree leaves. I'm working on a piece now that I'm kinda stumped on because it has a lot of the autumn colors in it and I don't want to over do it with the oranges and reds. I've done a lot of the preliminary work on site, and it's looking pretty good, just don't want to blow it. I may post it in oils later to see about some help, please feel free to comment. It will be of an old barn in a field. Don't have time today to do it, but later. Anyway, this is so enjoyable.

Thank you. For the "orange" tree, I started with a small Bristle brush and thick paint and did some blocking is. I still did this with stokes like individual leaves but moved quickly not trying to specifically paint each leaf. I then moved to a small flat sable or sable synthetic in a similar technique, but I wanted the areas with few leaves to seem a bit more detailed. Again while making individual leaf or brush stokes I moved quickly dabbing here and there as to not looked too overworked and detailed, etc. I started with the dark areas with Burnt Sierra mixed with a little Dioxinine Purple and in some cases a bit of Deep Hookers Green, then continued to build layers as the leves have varying degrees of light on them and turning of colors. Some areas are straght sienna. I also used this and added a couple shades of yellow to it, from an Ochre and a Cad yellow and then finally some white in the most highlighted areas. There was a small amount of Cad orange in the mid tones but not much as I did not want to get it too bright or too orange. I really found the Sienna was a great base match for the true colors that were there that day on the creek. Hope this helps. Lucy

Thanks, Lucy, this is helpful. I did get a chance to post the old barn I was talking about. Hope you check it out and advise. Any help will be appreciated. I will keep and eye on your posts, too.
