Bill, I have been watching you from afar for a while now, both here and on WC - I am really, really enjoying your flower series. I like the change of mood on this one, and love your clever use of colour. I am trying to learn my craft by focusing on portraits and people for a while but know I will need an antidote at some point and your beautiful and simple flower arrangements are a total inspiration. I am not qualified to comment technically but from the heart, I love it!

Bill, I really like this. How I want to learn to paint "painterly"- noticeable brush strokes and colors that do the job. I'm really struggling to find an instructor, as I can't seem to get away from fine details. Keep this up! Your work is lovely.

Love the rich colors in this.
The pot is really beautiful against that dark wall.

Thank you all for taking the time to look at the painting and to comment on it.
It is a change of pace from the airier paintings Ive been doing, but I like Wagner as much as I like Mozart so I gave it a try!
Kim, the right instructor can help a lot in buiding your confidence.
I've been doing a workshop with Larry Chestnut http://www.chestnutart.com/ a local painter here in NJ and he has given me some good help.
The shadow under the bloom on the viewer's right, for example, is painted using some ideas Larry gave me about shadows and I like the result.

Really like the affect here of the play between light and dark.
The subtle background sets this off nicely.
