I'm a new member of the forum and this is the first painting I've posted. Would love some feedback. And if anyone has any tips on retarding the drying time on acrylics so that more color mixing can be done on the canvas, I'd appreciate the secret! (I really don't want to get involved with oils!) This is fabulous! I can see the resemblance (but I bet they're pretty different). Your brushwork and use of color is very attractive. I love how you have captured their expressions!

Hi Connie,
Welcome to the forum. This is really excellent work. What size is it and is it on canvas?
Your detail work is very well done. How long did it take you to do this one?
To help you acrylics from drying out so fast, you might want to try Liquitex slow-dri blending fluid medium.
You just have to play with it to get a feel for how much to use.

Thanks, everyone! I paint from photos these days because I'm at that age when it's very difficult to switch between close-up and distance vision. So, my daughters call me "paparazzi" because they make such good subjects (partly because they, of course, engage my heart).
Jim -
It took me 45 - 50 hours. Not a quick project despite being acrylic. The canvas is 16 X 20. Thanks for the info on Liquitex slow-dri blending fluid medium.

Thanks, again!

Wow. You are great with portraits. I love the hair, faces and yellow dress. The arms on the left sister need more gradation in color/values for form - see how the edges are dark and abruptly turn lighter. Something about the right sister's chest makes my eye stop - not sure if it's because of the darker colors in some areas. Beautiful job.
