Here is a painting that is still on the easel and the paint is not quite dry.  A perfect time for critiques.  I would love to get some good comments and or suggestions while I'm in the process.  Canvas is not even signed yet.

Canvas is 12 x 24 painted with Golden Acrylics

This is stunning
I can usually find a nit to pick, but this one just nails everything. It has motion, mood, color balance, flawless execution, and a great sense of style.
Get this one to a show in a hurry. It's a winner!

Nice work Phil! I like the effect of the light spotlighting the front people.

Nice work Phil.
This has come a long way from the black and white.

The linear lines in the background seem to compete with the foreground. I think the piece could be helped by removing these or muting them further.  Also in the left corner and bottom of the piece the feet are not showing, giving the impression you ran out of space within the composition.  Sometimes leaving hands and feet abrubtly missing or "cut off" can work (see phillip perlstein's work), but many times not.  Including the feet helps ground the piece.    You did capture the sense of the moment in the piece, and it isn't always easy to convey.  Did you paint this from life, or from a photographic reference?

I went to a concert at FAU in Boca Raton, Fl. where this string orchestra performed.  Obviously, I couldn't do this on site, but I was able to pull out my little digital camera and, from my seat, managed to grab a few pictures.  Since the light was dim and the exposures long, the pictures were quite blurred due to my inability to steady the camera.  I also got the tops of heads of the people in front of me in the picture.  These photos and my memory were the models that I had to work from.  The trick, I think, was in recognizing a good composition when you see it and being able to record it.

Phil............This is such a nice piece. I don't agree with the above writer who thought the vertical lines in the background interfered with the composition.............I think it balances the horizontal look of the orchestra. You said that you had captured some of the heads of the audience in front of you when you took the picture. Now I think you should do another painting including the heads of the audience as they are listening to the concert............ Wouldn't that make a great perspective? Thanks for posting this..............Gene
