| Ok, so I completed this today. I wanted to paint a desert close-up which I haven't really done before. I really love these purple and pink Prickly Pear we have here. As I was working on the painting, I found it much more challenging than I expected. Maybe due to all the repetative shapes, colors, etc. Anyway I would REALLY appreciate some feedback on this one. In addition, I think I will name it Handle With Care. Study the image and you should figure out why. I didn't see it when I took the photo but it really was there. A nice surprise and I painted it as I saw it. Lucy. |

*goes to pick a flower* OUCH MY FINGER D,: We have these cacti planted outside Lone Star Steakhouse (good restaurant btw, you really ought to go there). I like how you put purple in the cactus leaves to balance the flowers, and how it looks like a watercolor.

| I am still hoping for some feedback on this, a critique maybe? I have had one suggestion to bring the weeds a bit higher to cover a little more of the blue sky. Your thoughts? Did anyone catch the other meaning to the title I discussed above? Thanks, Lucy |

Hi Lucy, This is beautiful. I can not see any place where changes are necessary. Well done. This monitor is not the best so I can not spot what you are referring to, but I suspect a snake or scorpion is lurking in there somewhere!! If you are not already a member at wetcanvas.com I highly recommend you joining as the replies are much quicker and there are a lot more of them. You could post this in the acrylics forum and cross-post it in the SouthWestern forum. The information there is amazing, especially considering it is a free site. |

| Thanks for the feedback. What I was referring to is the fact that one of the Prickly Pear pads are heart shaped. It was really there and a nice surprise to find, hence the dual meaning to Handle With Care! As for Wet Canvas, I am not familiar with it but will go check it out. Thanks for the tip. Lucy. |

I think I agree with the suggestions of lessening some of the blue sky. It's pretty, but maybe you need a bit more sandy area to suggest a bit more of a desert look. But then, maybe not. It's really very nice as is. I think your title is very appropriate. I love the prickly pears that have a bit more green in them, especially that deep darker green. But the purple ones look very nice against the taller cactus. Did you do this on site? Very nice. Gene |

| Thanks for the feedback, I am going to work on the sky and or weeds a bit tomorrow. I did not do this on site. I have only tried that a couple times. It is quite a challenge with acrylics in the summer in Arizona! I pretty much try to take my camera with me everywhere to capture reference photos. Some I paint from one photo but most of my paintings are a compilation of a few of them. I would like to try again in the future though. |

Lucy
This is well painted and has a nice desert feel to it, but I think the compositon needs some attention
You're right about the repetitive shapes. All of those pears are pointing us from lower left to upper right.
I'm being pulled up to that heart shape in the upper right and just stay there
Perhaps you can point something to the upper left to pull us back
The colors are perfect for me!

| You did very well. I see you added some weeds on the left hand side. That breaks up the big expanse of blue. And from what I can tell, I think you added some clouds to the sky, also breaking down the blue area. I would leave it as it is...........It's lovely. Gene |
