I painted this in acrylic on an 18x24 inch canvas. I wish I could have gotten a photo of it with more detail. The rose tree came out much lighter than in the painting and it looks rather flat. I thought I'd share it anyway. The Lady is from my imagination, but the two faeries were adapted from a picture of my daughters when they were little. Jodi |

Hi Jodi, I think that this is a lovely painting. Did you sketch it separately before painting or did you go straight onto the canvas and sketch with your paint? Leon

Hi, Leon, Thank you! I sketched the basic outlines of the Lady and Faeries with pencil and did everything else with paint. Jodi |

| Very nicely done. If the lights were punched up more it would be quite dramatic. |

| Heather, Thank you! I do so appreciate your comments. The photo did not reproduce terribly well. The details don't show as they do in the painting. Also, the stones at the top of the wall look much lighter in the painting. You really can see the masonry between them, but it is just a dark space in the photo. Maybe I can get another picture of it eventually; it is no longer in my possession. My Granddaughters have it now in their room. |

Jodi! I love your use of colors: vivid but sombre at the same time. It reminds me of my girlish fantasies. If you are not already doing illustrations for fairytale juvenile books, you should be looking into that carreer. Sandi |

Sandi, I still actually live in my girlish fantasies and I wonder if they are REALLY fantasies. I'm glad my painting conjured that feeling up for you. I've never illustrated a fairytale book, but what a fun idea! Jodi |

| Thank you, Jim! I'm not sure what the story behind this painting is, but I'm sure there must be one. You've got me thinking! Jodi |

| Aaah! I LOVE stories in a painting. This one reminds me of a lonely princess who only has faeries for friends. Evil gnomes put a curse on her that she would live in solitude the rest of her life, because they are jealous of her beauty. She walks in the moonlight dreaming of the day that somehow, somewhere, someone will lift that curse and she will be happy again. |

| I hope the faeries will find for her an enchanted lily which, when thrown upon the waters of a mystical lake in the early, early morning, will break the curse. Thank you, Heather, for the story! |

Jodi
Is she sitting?
I'd like to see that defined a little more.
You've skillfully made the rose tree and the skin tones the only warm colors, and they symbolize life.
I have to add to the fairly tale:
That red rose tree was once a thorny branch placed there by those evil gnomes Heather mentioned, but out of love for our lady, those faeries have nurtured it into a rose tree and, tho our lady doesn't know it, if she picks one of those roses- the right one, her rescuer will hear a call from that garden.
The faeries anxiously hope she'll pick the right one

Bill, But if the faeries tell her about the rose, the spell will go awry and her rescuer will only hear a warning to keep away. They are conspiring to come up with a plan to get her to pick the right rose.
The Lady is standing. I do see what you mean, though. The highlights on her dress do kind of make you wonder. I'll have to look at the painting when I'm at my daughter's house and see if it really looks this way. As I've said, I'm not really happy with the way it photographed. Thanks for your comments and many thanks for the continuation of our story! |
