I just finished this 10" X 20" view of the Portsmouth Harbor Light. I'm beginning to like doing these. Comments? I sure can use some advice.

Nice painting, maybe your cloulds are a bit too much the same shape,
I like it though.

Hi Burt..

I like this one very much. I agree with Retha....the clouds are a bit distracting. I'm not sure if it's the shape as much as the TEXTURE that doesn't seem quite real to me. There seems to be too much definition in them. But the lighthouse and the landscape look fantastic to me. You should post it in the all-media paint off forum.

Burt, If I were you, I would check the perspective on the big white building in the back of the tower. I think you have the building looking too "roundish". It also seems to me that those evergreens in the background would look more natural if they were of various sizes. Maybe they WERE planted at the exact same time, and maybe they are in real, exactly the same size. But I think you should take artistic license and make them look more natural by changing their sizes and maybe put one or two in front of the others. Just my opinion, take it or leave it. I like your handling of the outcrop of rocks in the foreground. I think if I were to paint this scene, , I would raise the roof on that long barn, and add a bit of the side of the building above the wall. Otherwise, it is a bit hard to read what that long gray object is (I mean the roof). Obviously I knew what it was, but I think it would "read" better if just a bit of the building would show as well. Thanks for sharing your painting. Gene

Very nice. Quite a challenge to paint this one.
