I am a new beginner doing acylrics. Does anyone have any pointers working with these paints? I would appreciate some feedback. I had a hard time doing this picture. Another problem I had was to do the sky. I wanted a bright sky and it came out dark. Is there any place to find out how to do skies? |

what do you want to know? I would suggest you try searching for w.i,p in acrylic forum. Or google acrylic tutorials that is the quickest way to find some nice tutorials or check out Wet Canvas, they have a lot of works in progress, and tutorials.. also on About.com. If you post your picture again make sure it is under 100 kb . then we might be able to see it, it is not visible now.

If you have the right channels on tv you can watch Jerry Yarnell or Brenda Harris. Both artists work in acrylics and give great advice. There is most likely a lot of information online too if you google them. _____ Sue |

| If you search for Roger Bansemer, his website has several good "free" online videos of acrylic painting. They are all landscapes but he does give you a lot of good information about the medium. The vidow quality on my home computer leaves a lot to be desired but I enjoy watching them anyway. He also sells DVDs of these as well. |

| One of the first things I learned about acrylics was that the paint tends to dry much darker than it appeared on the palette. If it appears to be just right when you have finished mixing, then you may want to lighten it just a bit. I find that skies seem to work best for me if I use a wet-on-wet technique, work with a freshly primed canvas, or use a retarder (keeps the paint from drying so fast). Try watching Bob Ross, he can do a beautiful sky in just seconds. I've also found that over-working the sky does more damage than good. Try different techniques with your acrylics...you may be surprised. I've found that paint brushes aren't the only tool that can be used. I've used crumpled tissues, a latex-gloved hand, the palette knife...just have fun with it, the best teacher is experience. Hope to see your painting! |
