This is my "Goddess of the Sea" 2.5"x3.5"  I think it is almost finished, the actual painting is smoother than photo, for some reason colors in the hair didn't all come out.  Comments/critiques?

I Heather,
The way you get detail into such a small painting is remarkable.
Is she coming out of the water or walking on her tail like a dolphin?
Love the splash detail.

Hi Jim,
Thank you for stopping by, I know this is different from regular art. She is actually bursting out of the ocean. If it was a bigger painting I would have a dolphin beside Her doing the same thing, but I don't like cluttered miniatures. I put capital "H" on her as she is a Goddess In mythology Her name is Amphitritie from ancient Rome. I took artistic license as she should have dark hair and rides a chariot pulled by sea creatures, but this is too small to do that. And dark hair didn't go with the composition of colors that I wanted.

I think I might do Aphrodite next as I am in a loving mood, today was the most gorgeous day, and spring is the season of love. Don't want to do her like everyone else though, will have to think of something good. She will probably also have blonde hair to as she is Greek. I can do as many Goddesses as I want up until Sat midnight. Next after Aphrodite I will pick one I can do with dark hair. I could do Athena the Goddess of Wisdom, reading a book... hee hee.

Wish me luck, I can't move my head tonight and was getting charley horses in my neck when working, but one must suffer for their art I have been told (never undertood why though).

Hi Heather,
Your work just gets better. Although the Dutch artist Jacob de Gheyn ll paints Amphitrite with dark hair who is to say…after all, sun and salt water gives more credence to Salacia (Amphitrite), being blond. I prefer Aglaea, Euphrosyne and Thalia as the Gratiae of beauty, nature and human creativity. I hope that you are feeling better.

Thank you Leon for the encouragement. I will look up Aglaea, Euphroyne and Thalia to check them out as I am not familiar with them, you seem to be familiar with the Goddesses. And yes, I am feeling better thank you for asking (medications helps a LOT) I know that when I paint I will have these problems but it is worth it, painting is my life now. Happy to hear that my work is getting better!

Thank you Anna, I appreciate that. I tweaked it this morning and listed it in my store. If it doesn't sell I think I will keep it for myself.

I talk about the art here so this morning my daughter looked at it and she said "there are so many beautiful works of art there". I just thought you would like to hear that compliment everyone.

Hi JM
(chuckle) I thought you get a kick out of seeing what I had been doodling with. Every time I tried to sketch it it had the same flow to the body, so that meant that is what it is supposed to be. Thank you for the compliment, I think your mermaid is truly beautiful, and that underwater scenery! To die for. I do prefer to work in oils, so now I am doing Goddess Aphrodite in oils, just started her today. I would have her almost finished if I could have worked all day (I started at 5:30am) but my pain flared up again really bad. I also want to do the Goddess Isis (not my cat even though she thinks she is a Goddess) but don't think I will make the deadline of Sat at midnight, so might just do her a bit larger. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

Hi Heather,
I’m sorry to read that you are still ill. I hope that you get better soon. When you do Isis do you plan to include a ‘Tyet,’ or maybe a knot in her hair would do?

Hi leon,
Thank you so much for your good wishes. I'm not exactly ill, as in sick, it is just pain sometimes on very high levels that I have to deal with. I get very frequent awful migraines and have stenosis of the spine and neck, and it is something I just have to live with. I have frequent procedures done to keep the pain down.

I have been tossing around ideas on how to depict Isis, I don't want the usual sun orb with horns on her head. I think I will put a ureaus on her headband of gold, a small Tiet knot as a necklace (a whole Tyet would be too large to use I think), maybe a gold girdle around her waist, and carrying an ankh in her hand. These items are small and I don't think would overcrowd the area I have to work in. Of course, I could take the easy way out and depict her as a kite bird.

This one is joyous and reflects your mood! To me there is no better art than art that makes you feel good! or at least feel something... Very pretty, and again the detail is amazing at the size that you paint!
