Here's a painting I completed a month or so ago based on a few quick sketch's and a couple of photo's...I find my best paintings use this sort of references.
I found these buildings off the main road in the Riverhead/Wading River area. Long Island farms were mainly used to raise ducks or grow potatos, so very few of the barns have the silo's. Now there's a huge wine industry out there since they discovered the growing conditions are perfect for grapes....so I guess Ill eventually get around to doing some vineyard paintings.
Me with a glass of wine could be a very dangerous thing.

| OK, but it has to be white wine...not crazy about reds...or we could just skip the wines and go straight for the volka. |

Nice work again JM, The picture looks a little dark though. I'm sure it's just the photograph. With your eye for detail, it would be nice to see this one a little clearer. Jim

| This is a great painting. I am particularly interested in those old barns. I had posted two of my own earlier under pastels, but I guess they have been taken off now. I would have loved to have you critique them. You obviously know what you are doing! Your paintings are wonderful...............Gene |

Well Gene, why don't you repost it? I don't do pastels, so I don't know how well I could critique it. I'm also known to give very hard critiques...so I tend not to say anything unless someone is persistent in asking. Not every painting I do is good, only a handful are great, the bad paintings are destroyed, the below par ones never get seen in public. I only ever show my best work. |

Jim, The painting is currently at another gallery. I will be picking up this weekend for yet another show if it hasn't sold by then. I'll take better pictures of it and post those by next week for you. |

This really shows off your work JM. Thanks for taking the time to re-shoot it. The detail and shadows you put it are very apparent now. Jim

| Now I'm thinking what I should do is take a few close up pictures for you to see the details...it is an 18" X 24" inch painting, a lot of details get lost reduced to this size. |

Jim, your painting is beautiful! I am a new artist and one of the first things I painted was a big red barn from a nearby farm here in central Pennsylvania. Barn paintings are a big hit in this area and it didn't take long to sell.
Have a Great Day!

Thanks again Lola and you too Antiki.
Classic red barns, one thing that is missing here on Long Island...red barns...all of them here are gray!!! And no silo's, because they didn't raise cattle here, just grew potato's way back when. |
