Hi mseymour,
Your gorilla made me smile. I was enjoying his expression, the underlying emotion in the subject. Then I became distracted by the back of the head and the chest area where it gets a little flat and the surface treatment starts to conflict with the subject matter. Then you put this one up!!!! The very same issue of spacial illussion which is weak in the Gorilla is the strong point in this painting! How fascinating.
You clearly are good at representing your subject matter well.
I was going to mind my own business and not say anything because I have just found this site today. But this is so interesting I just had to speak up.

Jim: What inspired me to do this? Well, it was a great photo. (Which I got off a non-copyright site.) Cropped it a little and changed the color of the woman's coat.
