I consider this piece of work abstract. When I started it I had no focus, picture or plan. I did this because I have not touched a brush in a while. For me it is a way of getting my mind in the right thinking mode. I got this far and my mind is still blank. I feel it need something to finish it. just not sure what. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts. I always say that I could paint over the painting if I don't like it. Yet is it something I can't find myself doing. Maybe I will sit in in a corner for a while and somehting will come to me. |

Maybe just some far away hills in the background. You could even add a sunset or surise to it. Jim

Hi, Johanna! I really like the idea of artists collaborating on a work of art. I saw a waterfall, gently falling and meandering from a distance. I like your start. For me, abstract can mean many things, but always it comes from a definite feeling that I express either with no solid form in mind, only an idea, or an idea with some science tossed in and also abstracted as well. It's difficult to explain well, and I guess that's why we need the visual colors and interaction of lines and colors to put forth the communication we feel inside so that the outside world can view them and hopefully connect. I like the freeing up of restrictive methods. Once you do that, you open up to many creative ideas. Some to keep, and some to toss!
Thanks so much for stopping by my site and commenting. I really appreciate it.

| Yes, a waterfall or a pond would work in the background, or the suggestion of a forest, many things could be put there. Repost this when you are finished, I would like to see it when completed. |

I would keep the side with the tree as-is. But I would eliminate the pink and blue flowers on the opposite side. Then I would try for a distant floral lanscape (a sea of flowers) in the center or maybe some hills and valleys with sporadic flowers. I think it will really make the tree stand out....almost like you'd be sitting on a hill under the tree, overlooking the landscape below. And then as Jim said......maybe just indicate some hills in the distance, nothing too detailed in the back. But that's just my opinion. I really like your style. It's a great beginning!

| Hi Johanna: Looks like a good start, now it needs some depth or distance. I like the way the light colours stand out on the grey |

Thanks you all for the inspiring ideas. A waterfall does sound lovely. I must have been diddling with computer graphics to long. Thinking I could work on the forground layer first that move backward. Chuckles. I will finish it in some way and I will post it so that you may see the end result. Will be interesting to see the end result. |

Hi Tom Nice to meet you aquaintance. I like you sense of humor, yet your idea is not half that bad. When I paint the canvas that dark gray my intent was to paint a single flower with a few leave on it. Then not being focused or having the right energy to paint the flower. I just worked with whatever was in my mind, which was not much at the time. Yet as I was working on the piece. My thoughts were of infinity. Having the darknesss represent that. The forground with the tree and the flowers to be the circle or cycle in life. I keep that piece in front of me and keep looking at it. I must say that everyones thoughts are inspiring. Have Jim's far away hills to give the depth, the darkness to give it infinity. Your fairies on a sunbean to represent eternity |

Sorry about that folks. pressed the wrong button and my thought ran away. So I will finish in this note. A stream or a falls to give life. Have the tree and forground represent the journey in life. This is just a thought rambling in my head. When I look at others art. I wonder what there thoughts could have been at the time of painting. Drawing with feeling is to the eyes like, music is to the ears. I am enjoying the response that I am getting. Thank you all for your input. |

Johanna, To answer your question: When I paint no matter the subject, I am in the subject, I can feel it in my head to the point it is tangible. This is why I like silence and no interruptions when I paint or I lose that focus. When it is going well I get this bubble of excitement inside and feel I can paint forever lost in shapes, colors and lights. |

| I feel that I am being invited into the painting, to follow a path. I think that a path into a forest or a lovely garden path would fit nicely. |
