Jim Looking at your painting again. I think your perspective is dead on as far as your pillars are concerned. What I believe is happening is: The person looking at it is having and inlusion. It all depends where the eye is running and what lines you are matching it to. If you look at the painting with your head tillted to the right and line the pillars to the railiings in the paint. The pillars are lined properly. What is happening is the veiwer is using the outside edge of the photo to line up the rest of the lines, therefore throwing it all out of perspective. Because of the painting being full of different angles the veiwer is not in focus. You focus was dead on. If you crop a little of the top right and the bottom left everything will aline itself. Congratulations on a job well done. . Johanna

HI Jim!! This is the second time I am sending this note. Grrr... I feel I just had to say my thoughts. I was studying your painting. I believe that your perspective is dead on and accurate. It is the veiwer that is out of focus. You painted it that way you saw it and what you saw was right. If you tilt your head to the right a little and line the pillars to the railings in the photo. Keep your eyes off the outer edge of the paint. You will see that everything is as it should be. Because of the many angle in the painting and the angle in witch it was painted in, it is giving the veiwer and optical illusion. If you crop a little of the top right and the bottom left you will see that everything lines itself. The veiwers many focus is on the outer edge of the paint then he/she is matching the rest of the lines to the outer edge.. So it is all about whose perspective it is. Congratulations on a job well done.

Hi Jim,
This is extremely well done.

This type of painting takes a lot of time and patience.
Youve succeeded.

Thank you so much tgfleet! Your comments are deeply
appreciated. Out of all the paintings on my web site, this
is the one that seems to be getting most of the comments.
I really did not think it would affect so many people the way it has.
Thanks again,
Jim

When I first looked at the painting I knew a wide angle lens was used to take the picture before making the painting and was going to comment on it.  But, reading down I see you found it yourself.  The wider the wide angle lens, the less parallel  lines will be.  Very interesting painting.
