Hello all...I am new to the forum.....I am a Russian artist and was wondering how important is the name recognition when selling art here in the US. I have recently moved to the US and would like to start silling my paintings.....should I changed my name or just sell thru a dealer?

Any help would be appreaciated

Hi

I think the name is important, but you will get name recognition as your art becomes renowned for what it is - I guess changing your name is quite a big step - marketing your art is important, name recognition comes afterwards.

A way of doing that is making sure you add your name to every bit of exposure you give yourself - dinners with names on programmes, events where your name is written - we all read names as we're all anxious to know who is at that event/dinner/open evening. Make sure every time you mention your art, the person/s you are talking to know your name to - word of mouth is a wonderful thing!

If you really want to change your name, do it now before you start networking.
