Hi, I use to run pastel painting workshops for beginners  while I was living in another country. wrote the book Creative Painting For The Young Artist (  http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Painting-Young-Artist-Alster/dp/9659025122  I returned to the USA  - CT- a year ago and would like to give workshops here. What is the best way to  get clients for workshops. Where are the best places to hold workshops for beginners. Do I need insurance to hold plein air workshops or go to peoples homes if invited ( if someone hurts themselves while in a plein air workshop?) . What type of price ranges do people charge for beginner's workshops.

Thanks ,

Jason Alster

Hi Jason,

I don't know about the legal aspects but I would approach local art centers where classes/workshops are taught and propose teaching there. Also, I'd google "teaching workshops" (or something like that) to find out what other's say and suggest about doing it.

Thanks - I did that and there are only a few places posted on the internet for CT. I was trying to save time running around as I am employed full time. I was just wondering what artists do to promote their workshops? Jason

Hi Michele,
I live and work in the Hartford area. I was actually thinking of going to RI for a Thanks giving painting / fishing holiday ( just saw the movie Dan In Real Life) and paint the bay area.

Ok back to the question about promoting workshops. I do see adds in art magazines a year in advance for their workshops. I am not that professional yet and am looking to the beginner. I also know that big artists get invited for workshops around the country especially if they are invited to judge juried shows. There is also the possibility of entering an art show fair and just advertise to people coming to your booth. I would like to hear from other artists giving workshops how they get their clients and where do they hold the workshops if not in their own home or gallery???
