| For those of you who have websites, or have their work online on other sites, has it paid off for you in sales? Or in other ways? Any help here? |

Hi, Margery, The best thing I've found about my website is the access it gives potential clients to my work. They can look at my work at their liesure, study it and decide then if they want to commission or buy. No pressure of my being there and they are free to look as long as they like. It is sort of a support system for my business cards. I've had clients tell me that it was nice to be able to see choices in pricing, sizes and mediums without having to call and take time out of their schedules. They've also said that they appreciate the fact that there was a 'place' to view my work at their convenience. I have received offers of greeting card companies for commission work, other artists to collaborate on projects and you would be surprised at how many people email their thoughts on my work (some good, some bad) just from surfing. For what it costs per month, I feel it is a very valuable tool! Mike p.s. I don't know about you, but when I tell people that I am an artist there is always that raised eyebrow look. (Something I've dealt with since childhood...caused lots of doubt in my work. I actually hesitate to this day telling people that I am an artist. Ah, that's for my therapist to hash out! ;-) ) Anyway, after they visit my website, they seem to have a different opinion. I guess it somehow validates the title of 'artist'.

This is in reply to your P.S. I can't imagine anyone raising his eyebrows when hearing that you're an artist. Unless it was your father and /or you're from a rural area . I suppose some think its a feminine occupation, which is why no eyebrows are raised if a woman aspires to be an artist. The joke is of course that historically male artists get higher prices and more respect. Movie artists are male, as are even simple icons. |
