Purpose of Memory Portraits
"To create an original portrait for a child living as an orphan around the world. Given that children who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, or orphaned usually have few personal keepsakes, the purpose of the portraits is to provide them with a special memory of their youth and to help honor their heritage and identity." — Ben Schumaker, www.thememoryproject.org

The "Memory Portraits" will be on display before being sent to El-Shadai Foster Home. Also on display will be handmade baskets and batiks made by the children and available for a small donation. 100% of the donations will go to the children to help aid in education, medical and living costs. Photos are up from the show reception.
Unfortunately I could not attend, but you can see many of the other artists with their works. Commemorative magnets, handmade African baskets and batiks are still available for sale at the link above. The baskets and batiks were made by the children themselves. 100% of the profits benefit the El-Shadai Foster Home.
