Not sure to post this here but I just joined this board today. I am a retired grandma who likes to work in watercolors, acrylics and oils. Have been working mostly in acrylics and watercolor lately. Would like to know why my name has to be displayed at the top of this and all to see. Why can't my user name be there instead? Hoping to hear from someone soon. Lil |

Jim www.paintingsbyjim.com Hi Jim, Thanx for your email and glad I joined this board. Discovered the new member section and will browse around this board to see what is what. Do people get to post their paintings here? I'll probably find out about it when browsing through the boards. Bye now.... Lil |

Welcome Lil, Your full name is at the top of this and other pages where it says login or logout. I believe you are the only one that sees this, let's you know whether you are logged in or logged out. Hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing your work on "show & tell". |

Hi Heather, I just looked at your website and you sure are good. I like to paint in oils but have been concentrating on watercolors and acrylics. They tell me I'm good but not as good as you at least in the portrait department. I like landscapes, still life and flowers. Will post something soon, if my Mac allows it. I have also painted on and off for many years but I am more into it since being retired. Thanx for the welcome.... Lil |

Lil, Thank you for your comments on my website, I will be posting a landscape soon, when I get it done that is. It is 30x40 so takes a while. I had posted it earlier and realized it was not finished, so working away at it. My next will be a still life. I haven't painted in 15 years, also a granny with 4 grandkids, 2 girls and 2 boys. I no longer work either.
Before you know it you will probably be better than me, especially with the critiquing we get on this forum, it is so very helpful to see one's work through the eyes of other artists. I have tweaked a couple of paintings from suggestions here and they look much better. We never stop learning. I like your name ArtMom. |

Hi there, It's Sunday morning and here I am responding to your email. I'm going to post an acrylic painting I did recently from a photo I had. I started with watercolors but acrylics seem to have my attention these days. So I'll see if the painting gets posted today. Have a good day. Lil |

Jim www.paintingsbyjim.com Hi Jim, Thanx for your response. I see my name now but when I finish visiting this board I don't "logout". I guess that's okay but when I do come back to the board, I have to login again. So I guess it doesn't really matter if I logout or not.???? Lil |

Lil I would like to post a painting in "show and tell" but I'm having trouble resizing my pictures. On the Mac it's a little different. So it may take time until I learn to resize my paintings to post here. Meanwhile I'll just enjoy viewing other people's artwork on this site. Have seen some really good works here. Lil |

Heather, I have just been to your website and viewed your gallery. Your paintings are beautiful! I loved your seascape! In the past I have painted lighthouses. One time I was starting a lighthouse scene on the top surface of a wooden stool. While I was working on painting the horizon line for the background I noticed it looked kind of like a waterfall and so my lighthouse scene got turned into a waterfall scene, done straight from my imagination. As soon as I can I would like to post a photo. |

| Hi, I was reading your postings, I am new also and I am glad I'm not the only one who has a rough time trying to figure it all out. I tried to post a couple of pics the other day and couldn't so I had to hunt around and figure out how to resize my pictures also, I just postyed them today. I also have been away from painting for about 10 years until about 1 year ago. |

| Hi everyone! I am a 52 year old beginner working on a correspondence course. I have completed pastels, watercolours, acrylics and an about to start oils. I feel stupid about asking but "what do I do with the turpentine (I am actually using paint thinner right now) once I have cleaned a few brushes. Can I keep using it over and over? And where do I dispose of it? Thanks! |

alias, you can save it in a container and let the sediment settle to the bottom. When you need it again just pour the clear fluid carefully into another jar and clean your brushes. When you're done pour the dirty turps back into the first jar and let it settle again until you need clear to wash with. you can do this many times. |

| Hi! I'm an artist Mom, who can't seem to find the time and energy to let the creative juices flow. My 19 month old is into everything...Yes! Even my paint palette is not safe from him. Anyways, does anyone have suggestions on how market artworks? And is this really profitable? |

You sound like you are in the same situation as me. I have two little ones. Steven is four and Isabella is one. It's very hard to find the time to paint with kids! I do believe if we push ourselves, we can make progress. My problem is finishing my paintings. I never seem to get the time to finish! I'm planning on getting several finished, and taking slides of them. That way, I can turn them into local galleries with my resume. Don't give up, you can profit from your talent.
I know this post you made is old, but I hope you get this reply. Let me know if you figure out a way to paint while he's awake! I sure can't. |

Thanks so much for the encouraging words. I just wish that i could pursue this passion, make some money to contribute to the family finances and take care of my son at home. It gets tough sometimes.
Sorry. If i knew the answer to that, I would've finished more of my paintings and drawings by now . Instead, i get dismayed at my poor delivery. My energy reserves are low when i get that alone time to paint.

You ladies who have little ones at home- been there done that- It helped me to know that being a full time 24/7 hands on parent was a phase, and this too shall pass. I switched to watermedia with my oldest child, who is now almost 18, and with my youngest who has ADHD, I could not paint at all after he was born until the last couple years. He is now 9. I was doing a lot of oil commissions while I was pregnant with him, and sometimes I wonder if the solvent and chemical exposure in utero contributed to his ADHD... Anyway, with the oldest, he painted right along side me, and his work actually won some awards for his age group in the county fair! |

I am a new member too, and find it is great to read what other artists are doing and saying. The Forum is a wonderful way to interact.
I've been an artist for over 40 years and make my living from my art. Children used to crawl under my drafting table, then I painted in the basement, now I have a wonderful studio and office in a wing of my home. Life evolves, if you love to paint you will make the time for it no matter what.
You can see my work on my website at www.niebruggestudio.com. |
