| Hi folks,
I have a very large (2+meters / 7+feet) relief sculpture I would like make with plaster. (Or somewthing sturdy, and lightweight= I can buy rolls of dried plaster on fabric at the pharmacy, but it costs 4000-6000 US dollars for the amount I need. Not in my budget. What I like about the rolls is the plaster is already in the fabric, dried, and to use you just dip in warm water, then mould as needed, and it dries hard in 5 minutes.
Maybe I should use boxes of plaster of paris and cut up mesh fabric instead? Any way of geting the plaster into/onto the fabric, so the dry plaster is stuck in the fabric, but not wet? Because once it is wet, it needs to be used within 5-20 min, and I can't do an entire huge sculpture in that amount of time! If I could make all the plaster/fabric pieces ahead of time, then I can wet the pieces as needed. I guess it will take several days to do the entire sculpture.
Also, any pigment I can add to the plaster to make it colored? Maybe fabric dye?
Maybe a better suggestion? Any tips/ideas appreciated.

I haven't done anything like this, but it sounds intriguing! I looked around (I'm sure you did, too!), but couldn't find any tips for this. I did however find several cases (vintage) of this type of "bandage" on ebay. Might be worth looking into. As for dying, could you add dye to the water you use to moisten the strips? Hmmmmm... Sorry I couldn't offer any better help. Joanna
