I have just had a giclee limited edition made of a painting and I'm not sure of the "correct" way to sign them.  Your help is appreciated.

First, did you remove your signature from the originals before you had them copied? If not, you have a signature on the front of your giclee. If you did remove it from the copy, then you can put an original signature on your giclee. I always put the number / seriers quantity under my signature on a giclee. I see some that put this on the back, but I think it misleads the buyer and feel that good ethics put the series numbers on the front of the giclee. After all, the limited edition number does make it worth more than just an unlimited printing.

Thanks Don. No, I did not remove my signature--that was something I had never heard of--the great benefit of these discussions. I finally did just signed it on the front, under the painting, on the right and put the edition and number on the left. Thanks, again. Lauren www.artbylaurengill.com

The procedure that I was told of, and prefer, is to leave the signature in the original painting. After all, a Giclee is not supposed to be an original. Tecnically, it is a reproduction of an original. Then write the number and edition run on the bottom left such as 5/100. Title in the center, and your signature on the right. You can do it in the white margin of the paper .
