Greetings All

Guess you can call me the new kid on the block.  I've gone back to art school after a 27 year hiatus, and am experimenting in different media, am curious to find out if anyone out there has used colored chalk in place of pastels?  I find them easy to blend, and with the exception of the dust, they give me more freedom.

I was wondering if anyone else has used colored chalk and how they feel about using them in their creations?

I'd appreciate any and all answers.

Thanks in advance,

Vilma, Pa.

p.s.->  The pic below was done one late evening with my daughter's colored chalk.

I say work with what you're comfortable with in order to develop yourself and your style. I'd advance to professional pastels for acrchival and professional reasons if you'd like to sell or keep your work.

welcome to the forum!

michele has the right idea..hiya michele!

graduate to professional quality mediums and paper...sketch paper isnt going to hvae the correct quality for long lasting works...and sometimes its even recycled which is not what you wish to use for long term either...its fine for sketching and preliminaries ect....but you want acid free paper, and if using something like pastels they have their own needs too..there are reasonable compromises if cost is a problem...and if the feeling of chalk is something you love, then you can find some medium that would have that same feel to it too...

nice piece!...Vermeers ~girl with the pearl earring~ is a favorite...but take a good hard look at your reference for next time.. ....its a single drop pearl that she is wearing...~wink~....

Michele-

Thank you so much for the response.  I'm always looking for an excuse to go to my local art supply store.  I'll keep in touch and let you know how my work is progressing.

Thanks again.

Thanks, as I told Michele, I'm always looking for an excuse to go to my local art supply store.  I'll let you know how things turn out.  Also thanks for spotting the error on the pearl earring.  Vermeer is also a favorite of mine.
