Triptik ??? What exactly is it?

Okay..

I've been working on a series from my recent vacation using several reference photos of different views of the same area.

I'm pretty excited about them so far and had in mind that I wanted to put three of them together in what I think is called a "triptik".  I don't know the exact word or if there is a specific way to mount them ..

I had visualized sort of a staggered look so that the paintings aren't exactly in line with one another, but have the following questions...
1.  HOW do people "frame" or mount these paintings?
2.  Is there an expected protocol on how to lay them out.... staggered diagonal vs. in line... vs  up down up, etc.

I'm really asking for advice because I'm pretty much on totally new ground here.  The paintings are almost done, but before I photograph them I want to decide how to arrange them..

I'd love to hear what those among you who are more expert than I am have to say.

Thanks..

A triptic is typically laid out like this Claudio Bravo painting below, aligned horizontaly. Nevertheless, you can arrange them vertically, or horizontally with a hinges to make a folding triptic.

Here are some more examples...

HI!

Thanks for your examples..  All gorgeous examples -- It appears that most of them are wall mounted separately or hinged in some way rather than framed/mounted on some sort of frame.  HMMMMM  perhaps I'll have to re-think my plan.

I appreciate your ideas and somehow will work out this problem...

Hi - far as I know - a tryptic is a painting that is complete as a whole, but can be divided into three parts, all of which can stand alone as a composition. I like them thinly framed and hinged. I have seen them cleverly framed so that the side panels make up another painting when folded forward.

I have had them Framed with a thinnish frame or without frame too....

It depends on what you want...
