I`m new to oil painting and was wondering what most people do with any left over paint after completeing their paintings. Is it ok to store and re-use another day or should it be discarded ?  Thanks for your help

Joe you can put plastic wrap over it and put it in the freezer and it will last a long time. If you plan to use it next day or two it will likely last anyway except for umbers and other fast dryers.

You can also mix "mud" with it and prime another canvas.

Maggie, Thanks so much for the information on preserving the oil paint. It was very helpful. I`m self taught and learning as I`m going along. Thanks to the people of this web site, they`ve  helped me more than once...Joe

I sometimes start another free form style painting, which may or may not be sketched in. It's fun and I use the
bare minimum paint I would have washed away from the brushes and pallett. Have fun! Bright

Bright, I agree. The free forem idea is great! I usually have a "starter" canvas going while I'm working on more finsihed pieces. Using up the left over paint on this canvas is a nice way to get color & texture going on an otherwise bank (& daunting) white space.
