| Susan - he makes me smile. I have gotten disgusted with my flowers in mine and I'm ready to paint them out again but I guess I'll keep trying. |

| Lavanya - This is fantastic! I love your bright colors and morphing the tree limb into "Freddie's" perch was really creative. Your "Freddie" looks very pleased with himself! |

Here is my parakeet. Actually owned one that looked a lot like this one when I was a kid. His name was Dickie Bird. So here's my Dickie Bird...6"x9", colored pencil on Black Strathmore art paper.

Holly, I love the colors and the softness, he is beautiful! I don't find that birds are easy to draw or paint. Susan |

| Suna, Your bird is so realistic, and what a great piece of artwork. I wonder what kind of picture we would come up with if we put all the birds submitted in one cage together. What a picture that would be.......I can picture it, can you? Susan |

Thanks Susan - I've never done a bird before, other than just little "M's" in the sky so this was a REAL challenge for me. I may have messed him up trying to put the azalea blossoms in but I'm going to keep trying - I will post again when I have something at least a little worthwhile to show.
Nina - Love your Dickie Bird! My brother and I had a parakeet much like this one, too. His name was just "Bird". When we were all at home we would let him out of the cage to fly around the house. He liked to ride around on our shoulders or taste whatever we were eating. He was especially interested in our aquarium and was just sure that guppies for lunch would be his favorite treat. After fishing him out of the water several times, we finally put a wire top on the tank! I guess we were slower learners than he was.

Susan- thank you- all the birds in one cage---how interesting that would be...Everyone did such a great job on their birds , it certainly would be a showstopper !
Holland- Thanks and loved your story about your "Bird". I thought about mine the whole time I was creating my picture....Your picture is lovely just as it is...

Thank you Priti. Susan, your parakeet is very cute, it makes me smile too. Lavanya, I like your watercolor. The eye of the bird is a little up of it's place, I think. Nina, I wouldn't think a painting would look so good with a black background; nice work.--- Suna. |

Nina, I'm always amazed at the strength of color you can get from pencils. I've tried different brands and can't get any decent colors from them. Love everybody's birds. Kathy |

Thanks Suna and Kathy. Kathy, I guess the secret is a good brand of pencil than layer, layer , layer of colors til you get the effect you want. This art medium reminds me the most of coloring with crayons as I loved to do as a child. I grew up in the country and would take my crayons into the woods and sit and draw old trees, birds, whatever...Don't use crayons anymore, but have loved colored pencils for that reason... ______________________________________________________________________________________
