I spent two hours on this but didn't like it. It's a very simple drawing But, I am glad I finally joined this group . Hope to make some watercolor works also from this photo. This is pastel, 32x42cm.

Hi Suna, I am so glad you decided to join us. I like the graphic nature of this including the outline you added around the mountains. Changing the bathers and beach to lighter values makes it almost seem like daylight. I am hopelessly behind...haven't gotten to Versailles yet! But my bathrooms are painted! lol....Hopefully I will be able to catch up by Sunday.

Yay Suna!! I really LOVE this picture and your rendition is great. I'm glad you brought the people into view because now I can get a better idea of what is there. My favorite part of both the photo and your picture is that breath-taking sky! Those are colors I love working with the most and I can't wait to dive in and try it. So glad you have decided to join us to play!

Suna,
Wow! What a difference natural light makes. I love the second posting with the much truer colors. The first posting was very warm and grayed compared to the second. How lovely is the warm, cool, warm, cool of the sky, mountain, mountain, beach.. .beautiful Also, the sky color in the second is much more saturated. I, too, love the "outlining" of the elements. I really have to get moving and jump in on this group.

I am not sure I have captured the values correctly....but I love the colors of this photo. If I have time, I may try it again being careful to get the sky lighter. Great photo Suna, Barbara

Barbara, your colors are beautiful! You changed the mountain lines and it looks great. Also the blue is very nice. Maybe a little light and dark oranges you can add to the sky. I posted several photos but salspaw choose this one. I'm glad you liked it.

Thanks Suna, I didn't realize I had changed the mountain lines. My teacher would not be happy with the way I stylized them...made them smooth....she would say they are not realistic. The drama of the darkness on the beach against the bright sky is a very challenging composition. It deserves more time, but alas, I was and am swamped with several other things last week and this week. I enjoyed playing with these wonderful colors. I may still try a redo being a little more careful.

Beautiful work you both have done. Suna, so different your colors in the light & shade. I love your second posting as well. Barb - I love the color of your mountain against your sky. Great contrast in that.

Ok, I am going to work on this tonight & hopefully have something very soon on it.

Well, 2 hours later and I got this painted. It's 9x12 acrylic on canvas sheet. I am not a people painter (yet), and plan to challenge myself on it .... but not today! LOL (what an awful day, between heat & work, ugh). So I wanted to paint & relax tonight, which is why I left the people out. I focused on the color & contrast instead. There is no light source & no real shadows, just color. Had some fun with this. Maybe will add the people (or something!) on another day. - Nan

Yes Barbara, my work is not realistic also, but I wanted to try something different. I like changing the way I paint sometimes, I get bored very easily. Later, some day, I want to completely change from realistic painting to a more free style. I have some works I made long time ago, maybe I will post them here and ask for comments on them.
Nancie, this is very calming and peacefull. The horizontal waves on the sky, on the mountain and on the sand are talking the same language ( wish I could too, sorry for my poor English, I have trouble explaining my thoughts). It's a little dark here, I think it's the photo you took. The sand on the front is very nicely done. Very peacefull.---Suna.

Nan, This is great! You have definitely captured the value differences on the sky and mountains. The suggestion of foliage on the mounhtains and in the sand are very convincing. And the touches of orange iand blue in the sand balance the sky and mountains beautifully. I am not a people painter either but I gave it a try using a technique I remember from discussing one of Van Gogh's paintings...just a few strokes or shapes and vieiwers' brains will fill in the detail and believe they are people. lol....
Glad you found some time to paint!

Lavanya, this is very nice. What a lovely blue mountain You gave the atmosphere of this photo here. The sky is also very lovely. I didn't have the courage to make watercolour works --- Suna.

Colors are lively! You added shades and it made a beautiful effect. Also, you caught the sunset atmosfhere. The orange of the skins of the figures are very nice. I like the colors very much. --- Suna.
