Thanks Dip, These are soft pastels not oil pastels. I have to admit that I have only tried OP once and they were some old ones I found at a garage sale so probably should not judge all OP by them. But I found them hard to layer to get various shades and hues. As I added another layer, the previous layer lifted off. I should probably give them another shot with some good ones.

Thank you Susan, Barb & Dip. Your kind words are very much appreciated. I fretted much with this - I'm always worried that I will ruin a good canvas. I usually use simple canvas sheets, but this was an expensive (to me anyway) canvas and I didn't want to mess it up. I keep telling myself "it's only paint, you can paint over it if you don't like it." LOL

Wow, the variety of styles and mediums is iincredible. I love all the postings... I have got to start doing these challenges. It's such a wonderful idea.

Nancie - your painting is stunning.

Barbara, have you ever used Great American Pastels or Unison? I think you'd love the saturated colors and creamy texture of them. They're much softer than Rembrandts.

Thanks for the recommendations, Linda. I have only tried Nupastels, Rembrandts and Sennelier. The Sennelier are very rich and saturated but a bit fragile and difficult to get a sharp edge for detail. I will look forward to trying some new brands in the future.

I have finally declaired this finished enough to post.  I can't seem to find a good place to take a picture - or - I don't know what I'm doing with the camera - or - a combination of both.  The original picture had way too much glare and I had to mess with it in my photo editor to get it out,  consequently, the colors are a bit off.  Oh well!  I'm not completely happy with it but I've looked at it too long to see where I need to work on it, so here it is, FINALLY!!  Comments?  Suggestions??  (There are stems on the upper background lilies, they just didn't come out in the photo.)

It's 16 x 20, acrylic on canvas paper.

Holland, this is beautiful! There is depth in the picture; the front and the back parts of it make contrast, you made the back part less vivid, it's great. Colors are sweet. It has a very nice calming effect on me. I liked the back part of it very much- the depth. Also acrylic is a hard medium to use for me, I tried it before. ---Suna.

Thanks, Suna. I had fun with it but there is still some work to do on it. Maybe I will pick it up again, but for right now, I am really tired of it. I started working on your Orange Sky picture last night. Hope I can post that later this week. Have you gotten your printer fixed yet?

Holland, I bought a cheep printer instead of fixing it, but it doesn't print good. I will change it and buy a good one soon. I hope I can join you at this weeks photo.--- Suna.

Hi Holland, This is very good. i love your colors and the way you have faded off into the darkness. I agree with Suna, acrylics are difficult for me and you have handled them really well!

Holland, you did a fantastic job! It's beautiful. I would frame that one for sure.

I have to laugh when some of you say that Acrylics are hard!! I find pastels & watercolor very difficult! LOL!

Thanks so much Barbara and Nancy. I really had fun doing this one - even growling at my problem areas was not so bad. I did find out that I have apparently forgotten almost everything I knew about controling acrylics and color management, but I "bullied" my way through it! I still have a problem in my mind with the bottom most petal and it's lack of contrast but, like Scarlett, "I'll worry about that tomorrow" - or another day.

Nancy, I agree with you - I have done very little with watercolor, pastels, oils, oil pastels but I have tried them all and have had a few successes. For now, (even though I do want to eventually learn to handle oils better) I'll stick with my best friend acrylics!
