We're leaving for a week, so wanted to get this in early, too. I am not a landscape person, but thought I would try with oil pastel.

OK - my painting space has still not turned into a studio yet and I still need several more dump trucks to get it in shape - BUT - I did find enough space to set up my easel and drag out some very old paint and very old brushes.  My original goal was to be able to post by September so I have done well to make it this far, at least.  My next goal is to go back and do the older ones so I will "catch up" with you guys.

Landscapes are my thing, too, but I generally have tried to stay away from water.  This is 12 X 16, acrylic on canvex.  (I apologize for the poor quality picture - I will try again tomorrow when I have some natural light - maybe that will help.)

The second pic is my "try do take a better one" attempt - I don't think it's much better - oh well.  I guess I need to figure out another better way.

Sorry all - it seems I"m way behind on everything these past couple of weeks. Hope to get back on track soon. I am checking in & I love all the work everyone is doing.

Barb - wonderful, soft pastel work
dp - love your detailed look. It's the opposite of Barbara's, but just as wonderful.
Tami - wonderful WC work. Love the richness in your water.
Hollyga - fantastic that you have found a space to paint in and started painting again! You did a great job with this challenge, love it. I can't help you much with taking a better photo - I do know that any photos I take in daylight are better than those in artificial light. And most photos need to be opened in a photo-editor (I use Photoshop, but there are others) to crop & get the colors closer to the original.
Susan - I love the colors you added to your mountains!

Nice work everyone!! I'm going to try the next challenge and then hope to catch up with this one after that. - Nan

I love them all!

Barb - your colors are great and love the way you handled the road and the shadow.
dd - I haven't played with oil pastel enough to get it to coorperate (or maybe that's my problem - maybe I need to learn how to coorperate with oil pastel! lol) The shadow on the road really bothered me but you handled it really well!
Tami - so calm and peaceful - you handled the road and shadow well, too - you just ignored it! Duh, why didn't I think of that.
Susan - Thanks for your comment. Rocks are my arch enemy but you did some really great ones! Wow! And I agree with Nan, love your colors.
Nan - Thanks. I am really glad to have at least a LITTLE space to paint again after about 15 years. My photo made the bottom 1/3 of my painting way too dark and it isn't really that dark. That tells me it was my photography, not my photo editor! I am using HP Image Zone which came with my printer and have had fairly good success with it but I think Photo Shop would probably be able to do more.

All in all, I'm am glad to be up and painting - at least marginally - and I hope to go back and chime in on the others, too.

Hi Guys,

Justr got back from my weekend away without my laptop....absolutely delightful in the Adirondacks. I am so glad to see so many interpretations! Bravo!

So...
Dip...I have never used oil pastel...you have captiured the values better than I and I like the ruggedness of your mountains.
Tami...Great water and perspective. My only suggestion would be to warm up the nearer mountains to bring them foreward...I am really glad you didn't skip this one.
Holland....this is a great painting..I love the broken color in the mountains. You obviously have a talent that should not be allowed to idle for 15 years!!! When taking a digital phot. I have found that I need to find a way to keep my shadow out of the picture of the painting...perhaps the darkness at the bottom of yours. I try to set the painting vertically under a daylight fluorescent bulb that I have so I am out of the direct light also in daylight from a nearby window. But I do have trouble with parallax...the skewing that happens wihen your camera is at an angle to the face oif the painting. I have to admit that I always have some parallax and I crop the picture to get rid of it in Microsoft Office Picture Manager,,,not always completely successfully as demonstrated by the blue tape visible on the Fruit Bowl. And obviously this means that the photo is not an absolutely acurate representation.
Susan...your rocks make me very jealous...mine always look like potatoes! And your colors in the mountains are great. My only comment would be that the perspective on the road seems a bit off...perhaps wider at the front would be more realistic.
Nan...sorry you didn't have time for this one....I know you have a lot going on right now. Remember that we will all be here to support you when you can get the time to join in.

Thanks everyone for the comments on my piece. I see we have another posted so...onward and upward!!!

All in all a great showing!

Holland - we must have the same printer! I also have HP Image Zone, and have used it also. But I do find that Photoshop gives me a bit more control on adjusting things. I actually switch back & forth alot. And as Barbara said, I run into parallax also. I usually crop the picture as best as I can. (and many a digital shot I took, only to view it & see a lovely shadow of my hand or the camera in the shot!!! LOL)

Barbara - thanks for your kind words. Things are beginning to get better, or at least a bit less-stressed! I'm trying to get back into a routine again. Over the weekend I did do a plein air painting, my first! (see under Acrylics).

And where in the Adirondacks were you!!??!! I'm there often, on the weekends. It is a wonderful place to be/visit!
