| This is a difficult one. Is there a bigger photo- to see details in the foreground. |

Hi, Priti,
Here's a bigger image, although it may have lost some detail in the enlarging process. Ah, well, we wouldn't want to be too bound to the photo, would we?

Holly, I'm starting to doubt myself. Is there another way to access this challenge without having to "click here" so many times? I can't seem to find this in the easy usual ways of the others, like "Oil", "acrylic", etc. |

Hi, Kim,
I'm not sure I understand your question. The easiest way to find the latest Photo Challenge is to start on the message board home page (http://forum.artistsnetwork.com) and scroll all the way down to the bottom to the last forum--it's called "Weekly Photo Challenge." Click on forum. Then click on the title of the challenge you want to see. That's two clicks.
You won't find this forum under "oil" or "acrylic" because it's open to all media.
Hope this helps. |

| Hi Everyone,
As I expected, this was a real challenge for me. But here is my attempt. It is 5.5x8.5 inches on Lacarte paper using Nupastels. I would appreciate any suggestions.

| Here is my version. 6x9, arches 300lb cold press, watercolor. These are really a lot of fun and great learning and development tools. Thanks for having adding this great forum. |

dp, This is fabulous. When I saw the photo, I thought watercolor would be good but I am hopeless at it. You have done a really wonderful painting. I love how you did the foliage and reflections. Barbara |

| Barb, thank you. I am sure you are no more hopeless than I am. I just got lucky and this just turned out pretty well, that's all. Watercolor (my way, lol), consists of happily splashing paint around. Letting it dry and then trying frantically to create some order and maybe a resemblance to the subject material. I am not kidding, either. Everytime I do a watercolor seascape, it turns out looking more like a Grand Canyon at dusk than anything else.
You can call me Dip, the pronounceable "dp". Everyone at home does! |

OMG!! Outstanding work both of you- i have been looking at the photo and wondering how to tackle this one and both of you are done already and what a great job. Barbara yours is serene and calm and i can see myself sitting there and watching the same scene. Dip yours is exciting and energetic - the blacks work well for you here and it shows that you had fun with it. I might sit this one out... |

Priti, don't you dare sit this one out! As Holly said "we wouldn't want to be too bound to the photo" so let your imagination and those vibrant colors you use so well flow!

What great work you both did! Barb, love your soft pastels and Dp, love your watercolors. You don't give yourself enough credit!
And Priti - don't sit this one out. Like Barbara said, use those vibrant colors you are so good with & paint away!
Me - I have just sketched and tonight I'll grab the brushes & start something. It's a bit late, but I can at least start. But I'll warn all - I have no idea how this one is going to come out at all! Might wind up looking like the Grand Canyon at dusk!! LOL

ok, ok i will try it just for the sake of being a good sport - when i see this photo, all i can think of is some tall graceful birds under that tree - don't ask me why??? if i put the birds in i have a problem fitting the bridge in ( which i love so much), so i am going to put all this on paper and see what comes up.
Susan, once you log in, click "add reply" (not quick reply) at the bottom or the top of this thread. Holly can help you more.( I made this mistake a long time ago) |

Hi Susan,
Posting is a bit daunting at first. Artists Network forum FAQs in the "Join the Discussion" forums is helpful. Also, I have found that you have to resize your picture to 300 by 400 pixels which makes it less than 100 kb and you have to pick a name with no spaces, no hyphens only alphanumeric characters.

Hi susan, another suggestion: At the end of your file name it should be .jpg I have to replace the word ".copy" in my old photo shop with ".jpg" Then also I've seen some as jpeg. This doesn't work either. Kathy |

Susan, nicely done! You even tackled the bridge which I, coward that I am, left out. I like the atmosphere you created behind the bridge...makes me think of haze. Your tree trunks are very well rendered, colors are great. I have two suggestions; make it clear where the water line is at the base of the tree trunks...the bottom of the trunk on the larger tree is a little ambiguous. And try varying the color of your foliage, various shades of green and throw in some reds and oranges....nothing in nature is pure color and adding the complement will make it look more natural....lol....I should take my own advice! I always have trouble with this in a green leafy scene...it is so hard to remember to add some red (as you can see by my entry above!). Barbara |

Thanks to all of you who jumped in and helped salsted post her image. And salsted, glad you got your art up!
Just a day or two ago I passed on my administrative duties to Sarah (you can see the announcement by clicking here. Sarah is extrememly capable, but it's good to know that during the transition, the rest of you jumped in to help a fellow message board member.
