I was thinking about doing a picture similar to the black & white photos w/ "touches" of color.

Have any of you tried this w/ colored pencil?

What do you think?  Can it work?

Or does it just end up looking like its incomplete/ lacking/ missing something?

yuppers i have..but one has to be a bit careful not to let the color take over tooo strongly...tinting is the word you have to keep in mind!.....you can use your cps this way or......

.....there is a new family of cps out, by derwent and there could be more companies manufacturing them now too but.. its a combo pencil, graphite and cp:

Thanks O.W.S.,
Is there any way you could post a picture of your work w/ this technique?

and what kind of paper would you suggest? especially using the Derwents you linked?

morning!...the derwents i might go for a stonehenge very slightly textured....i wouldnt attempt plate finish, the smoothest surface for paper, only because its very tricky when getting numerous layers down....save that technique until ya feel more comfortable with layering....but you could get a slightly toothed/textured paper of any brand and it would react well together...

i like thick paper because it holds up well, though i am very careful about the surface of the paper....dont have your pencils dig into the surface...

not sure first attempt at posting these will work....i have resized them small but eh...around here one has to realllly resize small!....

these are twoworks, and a close up, from the farrr farr distant past...where i would sketch out and work in graphite first...AND, put another layer of graphite over the top when i was done with cp work!....

the tiger, course, is an unfinished piece, i had created it for head study..the owl is a finished piece....
