This is a colored pencil house portrait that I did a few years ago.  I like colored pencils because they don't require much time to get out or put away - and this is important since I have a full time job apart from my drawing.   -- Patti

Thank you for the kind comment. I use prismacolor pencils. I can't remember exactly what paper I used, but I prefer a smooth paper that allows me to do a lot of blending.

Wow, Patti, this is beautiful! A very involved piece. I'll bet it took quite some time...

Patti, this is handled very well. The modeling on the house and the way you did the foliage is great. One thing I might suggest if you do another picture of this type is to look at all the verticals on the house, by that I mean alot of the vertical elements are not vertical or parallel to each other. If the drawing is meant to be sketchier then it doesn't matter but if you are trying to do a realistic rendering then it takes away from the quality of your coloring and contrast work.

This is done very well.   I agree with whoever said that the verticals should be straightened.  It was obviously done from a photo, right?   You have a great touch with those pencils.  Wish I had the patience for them.   ............Gene

Yes, it was done from a photo.  A 4 x 6 snapshot of a house in Helena, Ark.  The drawing is roughly 11 x 14.  I've never noticed before that the verticles are not straight.  I guess I'm too close to the drawing to see it.  I'll have to be more careful next time. -- Patti

Wow! Beautiful work. The variations in color, detail, etc. Did you present it to the home owners? I'd bet they'd be interested in purchasing it.

Hi Patti this is beautiful!!  Do you start with a grisaille first befor you apply the colored pencils?

Isabelle: I don't use a grisaille. I start with a line drawing, and then add color directly into the drawing. I blend and mix as I go along. I'll test color combinations that I'm not sure about on scrap paper until I have what I want, and then work it on the drawing. -- Patti

WOW! At first glance I thought it was a photograph! It has a lot of detail. It is really cool.
