It looks like you're off to a good start. I would think about simplifying the background a little. If you develop it as it is layed out I think it will be too busy and take away from the flower head. If you just detail the stem and the associated leaves and then fade the others it should work quite well. One other thing to consider, but it could be done when you are finished, is to crop the picture so the flower head isn't exactly in the center. Keep us updated on your progress.
