I started with a portrait of my granddaughter Hannah but my greatest interest is automotive or mechanical art. I have done everything from animals to landscapes but spend most of my time on cars. Colored pencil allows me to be very meticulous and fits my style. This is one of my favorites.

Impeccable - Every reflection and color tone shift of the other car texture, shades and oil stains on the street the beveled edges of the letters on the license's plate the reflected reflections there is no end to this - meticulous art form

Beautiful work. You are very talented. I'd love to see your other work you mention (animals, landscapes, portraits). Do you have a website?

Thanks Connie, Jess and Michele. I don't have a website but have most of my artwork on a Photobucket account. Here's the link to it. Not everything there is colored pencil. I have some watercolors, some airbrush/acrylics and pencil drawings.

| This is just fantastic. May I ask how long it took you to do this piece? I know..........all of your life!.....But, really how long did it take? You must have the patience of Job to work like this in colored pencil. I absolutely love it..................Gene |

Hi Gene,
This picture is about 13x15 on white Stonehenge paper. I use Prismacolor pencils almost exclusively. I start with a reference photo and turn it into a line drawing. I then have it enlarged to the size I want at one of the local office supply stores. I then transfer it to my Stonehenge and in the case of this picture I have about 45 hours total in it. As with any good colored pencil drawing/painting there are many layers used to achieve the depth of color.

Hi George,
I just checked out your work on photobucket. You are very talented. Do you sell your art on that site? How does one know what medium the work is in? (Edit - I just realized that you're a colored pencil artist. How did you learn this - your work is outstanding!)

Hi Michele, thanks for looking at my Photobucket account. The work in there is primarily colored pencil but there is also acrylic, airbrush and watercolor. I got started in colored pencil because I happened to be surfing art sites and found Ann Kullberg's site. I was overwhelmed to say the least. I bought one of her books and purchased the materials that she recommended and started practicing. I did quite a few "small" projects before I tackled a portrait or something more complicated. I have been doing pencil work for about 5-6 years now. I have only sold a couple of pieces and that came through friends and acquaintences. I have exhibited in a few shows and when people see my work they are very impressed but when I give them a price to have something done I never hear from them. It's not that I price my work that high but the time it takes to do a pencil piece as compared to a watercolor adds to the cost and alot of people think that it should be priced like the Holiday Inn mass art sales. Oh well, I enjoy it and that's all that matters.

Whoa! Beautiful work!!!! Is this done on sand paper by any chance? I have a good friend that works on sand paper and he too can get this fantastic detail and clarity in his work. I grew up with hot rods and I can appreciate this kind of art. The only complaint I have about the piece is that it kills me to see a small block chevy in a deuce!!! But, that is just a matter of opinion on cars , and has absolutely nothing to do with your perfect work! |

| Hi Mike, thanks for the comments. I also like something other than small block Chevy's in hot rods but they're pretty hard to find. On to the picture. It is done on white Stonehenge. When I got started in colored pencil it was the recommended material to work on so I have stayed with it and have had good luck. Everyone has their favorite support but I don't know if there is anything out there that allow me the detail that I get with Stonehenge. gbritnell |

This is amazing! I read it took you 45 hours... WOW.... WOW... after I work on something for 4 hours I'm ready for something new. As a drafting tech, I am in AWE of all the detail. I have just started my first color pencil drawing. After seeing this I hope I have the patients to hang in there and keep working.
