Sorry, this Paint-Off challenge is closed to entries.

Tap your inner child and create a painting, drawing or collage with a toy as the main subject. Since this challenge begins during the holiday season, finding reference material from catalogs and personal photos should be easy. And remember to check your attic for older toys.

As always, the winner of this challenge will recieve a $50.00 gift certificate for North Light Books.

Here are the specifics:
· The toy can be new or old, as long as it's something a child of 10 or younger would--or once did--enjoy.
· You may include people, animals or other elements in your work, as long as the toy is prominent.
· All mediums are acceptable--just keep your work two-dimensional.
· New work only please.
· Include your work's name, dimensions, and medium when you post it.

This challenge closes at noon EST on February 1, 2008. Then forum users and newsletter subscribers will have a chance to vote on their favorite from finalists selected by the editors of The Artist's Magazine.

Let's fill this challenge thread with toys, toys and more toys. I can't wait to see them.

Enjoy your holidays--and remember to save time for your art.

"Bringing out color"  drawn on an old discolored piece of cardboard I found as drawer liner.  The medium is of pencil and colored pencil.  Dementions are 9x12.

This was and is my favorite toy.  The smell of a box of crayons...the best toy ever.

I wasn't happy that you can't see all the detail.  I'll try to tweak it, by cropping.  Pardon me.

Rosie, you never cease to amaze me with your work...

I enjoy this piece! The composition, detail (as always!!!!), perspective, subject matter and use or none use of color is fantastic!

If you decide to make prints of this, I would be interested in purchasing one. (providing I can afford it?)

Hello, Duende (and anyone else who's interested in submitting more than one entry),

Feel free to post again and again, as long as you follow the challenge guidelines at the top of the thread.

I'm really enjoying everyone's entries. I guess we're all children at heart.

Hello, Art81,

Hope you don't mind my taking out your duplicate posts--just thought that would be less confusing for everyone. Thanks for the fascinating bit of pop history as well as for your artwork.

Duende,
I love this piece! Not only is it done well, but it speaks of culture...too many times we lose that from generation to generation.
The colors are fantastic, the composition is fantastic as well!

Thanks Mikey C. ! I gotta figure out a way to make the jpegs better, there's so much detail that didn't come through, the next one I intend to get a better picture, I really love this subject and there's plenty of toys I'm always tripping or sitting on around here to pick from, and of course, cultural is my thing since we are Native American and Native Mexican Indian and Spanish and Italian (Joe Dimaggio is my wife's cousin) and Irish and English. . . we're just mutts like everyone else!
Thanks again for your supportive comments.

by the by, I like your website alot! can I put the link on my blog?

Suuuuuuuuuure, D,Thank you!
All of your work is fantastic! But, I can see/feel when an artist's heart is in a piece, and this one shows heart...
I know that with some of mine, that they flow and just 'work' when my heart is in it.

Here's my entry!  14 x 17 (before reduction)Soft Pastel & Charcoal on Paper.  When I was young, I had little plastic dinosours.  I thought they were the best, they couldn't be destroyed, not even the plastic soldiers!.  Now along comes this Remote Control Lizard.  It gnaws and chomps it's teeth (with noise) and whips it's tail, and easily defeats the plastic dinosour.  My grandson thinks it's the best toy ever!
