Thank you Kathy. I like what you have done with your two palettes , by using a different choice of blue in the second you came up with a whole new look ,
It's amazing what can be done with just two colours and the variety of shades/hues that come from the different choices of orange or blue

Hi everyone, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything...life got in the way!

This one I call “Blue Angels.” It is on a 16x16 gallery canvas and painted in oil. I used cobalt blue, white...and a pinch of orange (red yellow mix).

I am not sure if this qualifies because I used 3 sticks of each shade to keep the vibrancy of the colors: a light-, a middle- and a dark-toned red-orange and the same in blue-green.

Title: "Teal Beltie"
Medium: soft pastel on red-orange tinted Wallis Museum pastel paper
Image size: 6"x6."

This painting is also a color experiment with simultaneous contrast. To briefly explain... two colors, side by side, interact with one another and the simultaneous contrast is formed when the boundaries between colors perceptually vibrate. Van Gogh and Hofmann used color contrast in their paintings.

Thanks!  Carol Santora... Please visit my website: www.carolsantora.com.

I'd like to introduce myself, as I just joined the group, but I have been lurking for awhile. My name is Darlene Petralia, I am from Upstate NY and though I haven't done much personal painting in long time, I have been teaching art classes in a program for developmentally disabled adults. I have also been fabric painting totes, bags, etc. for charitable auctions/raffles.

I am excited to try this challenge, I hope it will give me the kick in the paints ( ;-} ) I need to get going again.

PS I am not very good at this messenging/blogging stuff, so please bear with me.

Hi, Darlene.. I'm brand new too, so we'll both kick each other to get going, what say?  I haven't painted or anything since last October when I stopped smoking.  sigh.

Quick Question: Are we limited to only one orange and one blue or can we use multiple shades of these colors?

Hmm. I thought it was one orange and one blue.  That seems like a fun challenge.. There are tons of mixtures to be had with only one of each.  It seems to me, that that is where the challenge lies...

Attention ! to whomever posted a drawing of a girl with the file number/name "Girl jpeg" that just happened to be the same file number/name of my painting "Girl in blue" .
As we both had the same file/name no. your drawing replaced my painting in my post ,under my name , ( see last post on page 2)
I have deleted your drawing from my post and changed the file no. of my painting and posted it again.
you will have to re post your drawing.( which was excellent by the way) no need to change your file number as I have changed mine which was the only way I could get my own painting back into my post.

Hello,

Here are the answers to a few of questions that members have recently posted on this thread:

1. You may use only one blue and one orange (with the option of adding one white). All other shades must come from mixing those two or three colors. Some art that has been posted used more colors. We enjoy seeing them, but they're not eligible for the prize.

2. There is no size limit on your original work (although the image that you post must be less than 100k).

3. Posting on the message board and entering a Paint-Off challenge are free!

Happy painting,

Holly

10" x 13" watercolor painting on Yupo paper scanned to a 81/2" x 11". I call this "Evening Sky" as it resembles the sky viewed from our deck overlooking Table Rock Lake.

Steel Blue is a watercolor using blue and orange. The white of the paper leads the eye through the painting giving the hard edges crispness.

Hello, Tatiana,

Good question. Texture is fine, as long as your texture medium doesn't add another color. Also, keep in mind that these works should be basically two-dimensional--something you would view from the front only.

Hi.  My name is Judy Boles.  This challenge sounded like so much fun, I thought I'd give it a try.  We just got back from the Grand Canyon and I thought that landscape would lend itself to blue and orange.  This is "Storm Over North Rim", cerulean blue, cad. orange and titanium white oil on a 16 X 12 canvas.  The other paintings already posted are beautiful!
