Click here to see the winner of the Furry Friends Paint-Off challenge and a list of the finalists.
Show your love and admiration for a favorite furry animal with your art. You can depict a common household cat or dog or a woodland favorite like a deer or squirrel or something more exotic like a gorilla or zebra. If it's an animal with fur, we want to see it in the October/November All-Media Paint-Off challenge.
Here are the details:
- To
enter, you must be a registered user of the Artist Network forums. To
register, click on the word "Register" toward the top of this page and
on the right. If you're already a forum member, just make sure you're
logged in.
- Your artwork must have one or more prominent live furry animals.
- Your artwork may be any style from trompe l’oeil realism to abstract.
- All media are acceptable, including collage—just keep your work basically two-dimensional.
- New work only please.
- Include your artwork's name, dimensions and medium when you post it. (Click here
for posting instructions.) Do not use the "Quick Reply" area to post
art. Instead, click on the "Add Reply" icon. You'll find it on the left
after the last message. Look for a green pencil on a yellow background.
- Those
who have won an All-Media Paint-Off challenge within the past year may
post their art, but they are not eligible to win this challenge. If
you're unsure whether you're eligible or not, email me at
artistsnetwork@fwpubs.com
As always, the winner of this challenge will recieve a $50.00 gift certificate for North Light Books.
This
challenge closes at noon EST on Monday, December 1, 2008. Then forum
users and newsletter subscribers will have a chance to vote on their
favorite entry from finalists selected by the editors of The Artist's Magazine.
Happy painting,

I wanted to enter this watercolor & colored pencil sketch I just did as an idea for a later painting topic. 8x12 on smooth watercolor paper. It shows the plight of an abandoned dog in the snow. I named it " Out in the Cold." Any comments and suggestions are very welcome.

| THE BEGGAR
Amish children love their pets. Here are two Amish boys, carrying lunch pails, on the porch of their one-room school. Buffy, their dog, has followed them and is begging for a treat.
I did not work from photos, except for the dog, which belongs to a friend. The Amish do not like to be photographed, and I respect their wishes.

Love the Amish children. How wonderful to paint them from memory or was it from your family? The dog is also well done. Kathy |

BELLA! Watercolor on Yupo 12" x 16"
This was my first attempt at painting my puppy as I remember her in the springtime running through and chomping on all the tulips! Great fun to paint on Yupo!
