I found another "water" picture...I did this one about 1 year ago..not sure if that counts...of the fish in my pond.  It's 22 x 30, too tired to come up with a name.  Any suggestions?

This is acrylic on board. 9x 12 inches. Just came out of my head. I was concentrating on the action of the water.

This is one I just completed. It's a 9x12 oil on canvas, titled The Grand Canal.

I love the looseness of your painting, Mark.

This is called "Incoming Tide".  It is a composite of several photos I took on a trip through Oregon a year ago.  It is pastels on Wallis sanded paper, 10" x 13".  I'm sorry the photo is a little dark.  I have entered this in the county fair Fine Arts Division this week, so keep your fingers crossed for me.  Adding an addendum:  I won a blue ribbon in the Amateur pastels category and the Superintendents Award.

Here in Miami you don't have to go far to find water! This is a scene from Mathesons Hammock. The city of Miami can be seen in the distance. Thanks for looking, bobbi

I've seen some really nice painting in this Water challenge. It would be difficult to chose. Maybe next time the water challenge could be more specific.

Good point, Kassie. The next couple of challenges planned will be rather open as far as subject is concerned, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind as far as being more specific for other future challenges.

In fact, I invite all forum members to submit Paint-Off challenge ideas. Just add a message to the new thread called "Paint-Off Subjects Welcome" under Forum News.

Can't wait to see your ideas!

Best,

Hi, rkprod, nice work, I like both of your paintings but especially the second one. You said you are new painter, I can't wait to see your work a couple of years from now.
If you don't mind my asking, did you go to an arts school or are you self-taught?

Sorry for posting my first entry wrong.  I think I have it right now.

This is a painting I completed in Early September based on photos I took on a morning walk in July, 2008 while on vacation in Ludington, Michigan.  It is a 10 x 8 oil on gessoed hardboard, which is a first for me (as stated elsewhere ).  I found it a challenge to keep the brush strokes from being too obvious while blending on the smooth surface.  However, this will not be my last hardboard, as I do like the finished effect.

Light on water is my favorite subject to paint.  Thanks for the opportunity to contribute one of my faves!

Sorry, folks.  I'm still trying to get the hang of this.  I was trying to comment on someone's beautiful submission, but this got seperated from the correct spot, so I have deleted my original comment.

This is my friend's dock at Morton Lake in Wisconsin.  It is 1/4 sheet of Arches 140 lb. cold pressed watercolor paper done with mostly Holbein watercolors.

Hi Sandi,

Thank you for the kind comments. I am self taught with the exception of reading a few books and a design class that I took in College. My mother painted a lot and she was also self taught. I used to watch her but never touched a brush until after she passed away. She gave me all of her supplies just before she passed and they sat in my closet for about ten years until I retired and decided to give it a go. Now I'm hooked!!

Regards, Ron (rkprod)
