Sorry, this challenge is closed for entries. Click here to see the winning painting and a list of finalists.
What do you think of when you imagine scenes with water—a cool, refreshing expanse? a sparkling fountain? a gurgling stream? turbulent waves? Water offers artists a huge variety of light effects and textures. For the August/September All-Media Paint-Off challenge, "Water, Water Everywhere," paint a waterscape or outdoor scene in which a body of water plays a dominant role.
Here are the details:
- To enter, you must be a registered user of the Artist Network forums. To register, click on the word "Register" toward the top of this page and on the right. If you're already a forum member, just make sure you're logged in.
- Your artwork must have an outdoor setting with a body of water. The water may be as small as a fish pond, puddle or fountain or as large as an ocean—as long as the water figures prominently in your artwork. A sentence or two of explanatory text is encouraged, but not mandatory.
- Your artwork may be any style from trompe l’oeil realism to abstract.
- All media are acceptable, including collage—just keep your work basically two-dimensional.
- New work only please.
- Include your artwork's name, dimensions and medium when you post it. (Click here for posting instructions.) Do not use the "Quick Reply" area to post art. Instead, click on the "Add Reply" icon. You'll find it on the left after the last message. Look for a green pencil on a yellow background.
- Those who have won an All-Media Paint-Off challenge within the past year may post their art, but they are not eligible to win this challenge. If you're unsure whether you're eligible or not, email me at artistsnetwork@fwpubs.com
As always, the winner of this challenge will recieve a $50.00 gift certificate for North Light Books.
This challenge closes at noon EST on Monday, October 6, 2008. Then forum users and newsletter subscribers will have a chance to vote on their favorite entry from finalists selected by the editors of The Artist's Magazine.
Happy painting,

This is one of my favorites. It's 18x24 Oil on Canvas. The title is Let Your Light So Shine. It is a scene out of my head. I had seen some photos that had these colorful clouds in them and wanted to try it. The painting just kinda grew from there. The challenge for me then was to keep everything in a sunset setting. I did this by using those same colors in the sky throught the whole painting. Hope you enjoy.

Title: Trickling Cascade
The trickling cascade of a water stream running down, between and over the rocks at the bottom of a gorge was the inspiration for this painting. |

This is a pastel painting of my daughter at the beach on Captiva Island, Florida.
Measures roughly 16 x 20 inches.
I feel it gives a sense of anticipation, longing, watchfulness.......
The title is "Captivated on Captiva." |

| It's been awhile, but thought I'd try this challenge! This painting was done from a photo that my brother-in-law took up in the boundary waters in Minnesota. He canoes there regularly. I call it "Waiting at the Dam" and its a soft pastel. It is 10 x 13 in size and is on sanded paper. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do! |

Becaues of family illness, I haven't been able to spend much time painting recently. However, I have recently, managed to complete a waterpainting which I think might fit into the topic for the challenge.

Hi All, I have not posted before, hope I'm doing this correctly. Painting is watercolor, and is titled "Cops and Robbers" because of the boats' names. I love to paint 'working boats' and have visited many marinas on the California coast in search of those with character. |
