This was painted years ago. I was inspired by the readings on Sabian symbols, the study of mystics on the degrees on the circle as interpeted through Astrological readings of Carl Jung. She is weaving a basket by the setting sun. I forgot which degree this was. I used a close friend as the model. It's 16" x 12" - Watercolor

I'm impressed by the creativity expressed in the entires to this challenge. I'm also enjoying seeing what summer means to different people. Just want to remind everyone, though, that in order to be eligible for the $50.00 North Light Books gift certificate, your artwork must be a still life.

Grandpa’s Water Jug (Pastel Painting 11X14)

When I was a boy growing up on the farm my summers were filled with helping my dad and grandpa put up hay. So when the question of a summer still life is posed, my thoughts go to grandpa’s water jug. It was not an unusual sight to see this jug tied to the back of a tractor bouncing about as the tractor crept across a golden hay field.

I always look forward to the fresh fruit in the summer and to be a little different, I chose to draw three pears in charcoal - I absolutely love their different shapes.   12.5 x 18.5 on white paper.

For the Summer Still Life Challenge the name of my painting is Sunflowers and it is a 16 x 12 oil painting on panel.  These sunflowers were volunteers this year.  Last year I bought a packet of sunflowers, but never planted them so I was excited to see these show up.  It was an extremely hot day when I painted this painting, but well worth it.  Check out my blog http://christinebray.blogspot.com/   Thank you.

Boschs Pears, Watercolor, 7 1/4 " x 11"

This is a classical watercolor study of pears on lace. I have many of these types of studies, but this is one of my favorites.

"Nectarines of Summer"

10" x 15"

Watercolor

Watercolor is the perfect medium for nectarines, because the stains are so similiar to the watery colors on the skin of the fruit.

I'm new and want to post a painting in the Summer still life challenge but don't know how to resize my image file to 100kbs. Help! Charl

well, I finally reduced the pic to 100kbs but it still won;t post.  It must be the file type JPEG that I'm using but I don;t know how to change it.  Besides, what file type should I use???

Well, day two trying to post my painting and I've finally succeeded, thanks to my son-in-law's advice.  He suggested reducing the pic to just under 100kbs because maybe my pic was a fraction over 100.   Guess it was.  My painting is "Bunny Planter" below.

this is "Bunny Planter", a watercolor on Arches 140lb. paper, size 11x14.  I'm new here and this is my entry in the Summer Stll Life challenge.  I've had to crop my original to gat it to 100kbs so the balance of the composition is slightly altered.

Ryanpainter,

I love your painting "Cricket"; I think you may have a winner here.  My own thoughts of summer, besides flowers, are beach vacations and enjoying the pool.  My plan was to try to get both a flower and a beachy theme painting done for this challenge.  I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.   Have you posted pics anywhere else on this site? ( oops! This reply was intended to go under the above painting "Cricket", and I don't know how to erase it.)
