Sorry, this challenge is closed for entries.
Do you have a favorite place—some place you visit often or wish you could visit, if only just once? Give us a glimpse with your entry in the sixth All-Media Paint-Off.
Here are the specifics:
- The subject matter of your entry can be indoors or outdoors, real or imaginary. Scope of your subject may be anything from a panorama to a tiny corner.
- Your artwork may be any style from trompe l’oeil realism to abstract.
- All media are acceptable, including collage--just keep your work basically two-dimensional.
- New work only please.
- Include your artwork's name, dimensions, and medium when you post it.
As always, the winner of this challenge will recieve a $50.00 gift certificate for North Light Books.
This challenge closes at noon EST on Monday, March 24, 2008. Then forum users and newsletter subscribers will have a chance to vote on their favorite from finalists selected by the editors of The Artist's Magazine.

| My favourite place would be my grandmother's Garden. Both she and the garden are long gone but everything I learned and loved in my life began and still exists in this special place.

"Window Into Monte Alban" 28" x 20" Transparent Watercolor
I have always wanted to go to Oaxaca, Mexico. Finally a few years ago my wife and I went. We took a bus up to Monte Alban Ruins and it was magical, there was a little hummingbird that followed us everywhere and a white hawk hovering above. I went off the beaten path to connect with the ancient-ness of this place and found this little niche in a corner of a long structure. I knew I'd make a painting of it one day and finally this summer I did. I tried to convey the textures and nuance of colors of the limestone as well as the mystery of that window into Monte Alban. |

These are all so wonderful.
Isn't it just so great that each of us can connect to someplace... Maybe like Artopilot with a memory from childhood. Maybe with the inspiration of the beauty of nature like Judith's painting and maybe someplace than resonates with something within as Pablo so beautifully depicted.
I wonder which of the many places I love I'd try to paint.... hmmmm. In it meantime it's fun seeing a little picture of what others hold dear. |

One of my favorite places was this still pond. For me, it has a sense of peace and calm.
I love painting places, but rarely 'pure' landscapes. Somehow, I feel a need to include some man-made object, even if it is only as small as the little bridge on the far bank...

| My favorite place is the woods where I can see wildlife, especiallly the coyote, wolf, deer or fox. The peacefulness of the woods and the animals that inhabit it remove me from the busy daily demands. I can sit quietly and observe the natural world around me and enjoy the animals in their environment. The stillness, the smells, the colors, the sun, the rustle of the trees are relaxing and inspiring. This is a watercolor painting 14 x 21 "Coyote in Winter"

Since I've lived in the Chicago area, my favorite place to spend time
is at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. It reminds me of the area in
rural western NY where I grew up -- acres and acres of woods and fields, wildlife and wildflowers, hills and valleys.
It is such a treat to spend time at the Arboretum, sitting in a meadow with my watercolors painting wildflowers, hearing the calls of birds I haven't heard since childhood, seeing a herd of deer run out across the path just yards away from me.
This is an oil pastel painting (about 9" x 12") of the trail down to Lake Marmo at the Morton Arboretum, a path I've walked many times. It's especially pretty in spring when the redbud trees, daffodils and bluebells are in bloom. The flowers carpet entire fields -- it's really something to see.

Hello, Fellow artists! Can we ever separate the artist's heart from Nature? It looks as if we all share this love. I have two favorite places and will post each separately. Here is "A Child's Place". 14 x 18 watercolor reminiscent of my favorite childhood memory - of carving out a niche in the tall Spring grasses and mustard flowers in the fields behind the schoolyard each year, a little hide-away where I could dream and soak in Nature's wonders. I just had to give it some movement, as it seemed to me that all of Nature was 'alive' around me at these little sojourns of mine. I have no doubt that the seed was planted then for this artist's soul.

Here's my Number Two most favorite place in the world! The light in Greece is absolutely mind-boggling. Artist's thrive on light, right? I found the brightest whites and colors, and the clearest blues that I've ever seen. The colors on a sunny day seem to reflect off of the white-washed houses like a giant prism. "Jardin Fantastique" is an 18 x 24 watercolor painting. I added a bit of garden "fantastique" of my own. I enjoyed seeing all of your favorite places and they seem to bring back memories of my own. Spent my honeymoon in Oaxaca - Monte Alban is another artist's paradise - soul-lifting. Thanks for sharing, Pablo.

My favorite place is in the garden, but this picture represents some of the most beautiful gardens that I saw in Mexico. The foliage there is so lush and green. The flowers are tropical and huge! This was at a secluded restaurant up in the mountains south of Puerto Vallarta. I call the piece "Jungle Garden". It's a 10 x 13 pastel on pastel paper.

Last year, my buisiness travel took me to North Carolina. It was the begining of Autumn. I had my camera and enough free time to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway where I found this scene. These big beautiful trees were lit up with evening sunlight and one of the trees had already begun its color changing... but only on one side away from the daily sunlight. I had to paint it!

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. One of my favorite places is a little village surrounded by the castle walls called Óbidos.
Here the past meets the present with beautiful preserved houses and narrow streets.
