These paintings by Rosie are really great. I wonder, though, if this competition shouldn't be limited to only one entry per artist. It seems sort of like "stacking the deck" when one artist enters so many times, and I think it is probably very discouraging to many other artists. What do others of you think? Gene

I guess I got carried away and I can see Gene's point, infact I had a feeling that this was going to happen. I was hoping for more entries....I thought paintings take more time than drawings they'll be coming in soon. I just had so many ideas they wouldn't stop...they have now. If the administration would be so kind as to remove the last 3 entries of mine as I am requesting I would not feel so guilty. 5 is alot, I apologiize to everyone.

Don't take them off... at the very least put them in the drawing topic!!! I love looking at these.
Gene is probably right in that one entry only, but Rosie can't help that others aren't contributing.

Rosie, there is no reason for you to feel guilty!!!! I wish I had the time, talent and ambition that you have to do such fine work. I appreciate and respect your talent and your sharing it here.

Keep them coming (where ever, when ever), they inspire, teach and warm the heart...
Mike

Hello, everyone,

I'm really enjoying all the entries to this challenge. Hawklady, Rosie, art 81, Duende, bggordon--every one of you has made me smile.

Rosie, since I told you that multiple entries were fine, you have nothing to apologize about. As Mike said, you can't help if others haven't submitted their work. So I hope you don't mind if I decline your request to remove some of your entries.

Gene does have a point though. A contest isn't much fun if most of the entries are from one person. The solution I'd like is for more of you to enter. This thread has had over 738 views so far. Even accounting for multiple views from the same person, that's a lot of potential entrants.

One purpose of these challenges is to stimulate artists to create. In my opinion, every time an artist creates something new he or she gains things far more valuable than a $50.00 gift certificate—things like experience, enjoyment, self-expression. Another purpose of these challenges is to let artists see how many different ways the same creative challenge can be approached. Artists of all skill levels contribute something of value to this forum when they reveal their creative vision by showing their artwork. Finally, it’s just plain fun to see what other artists come up with.

You have until noon February 1 to enter this challenge, but here's my secondary challenge. If at least five more artists submit an entry by the end of January 18, I'll post my own art. It won't be an official entry, of course, because as forum administrator, I'm not eligible. Even if I were eligible, my work wouldn't be any competition. I'm more of an art lover than an artist. In fact, offering to post my work takes some real courage. I don't offer to do it because I think viewing my work will be such a treat to all of you, but because I feel that if I challenge you to create and display your art, I should be willing to do the same.

I've spent a lot of time around creative people through the years, and I notice they all share one characteristic: Creative people create. I invite and challenge you creative people to channel your creativity into artwork depicting a "best toy ever." Truly, I'd love to see your work.

Holly, if I submit a drawing even though I'm not eligible to win, will it count toward the five? I want to get your art up here too!

Sure thing, Grace! The more people we can encourage to create art, the better.

I feel a bit as if I've volunteered for the dunking booth at the county fair. Help me make my metaphorical splash!

The 18th eh?

Idea? Check. Got time? Check. Got everything needed for the still-life? Uh-oh. One more thing needed...

An' Rosie, I had a big, wide smile after seeing the baseball/dog. Excellent!

Cheers and good luck everyone!

Holly...really over the 18th??

I wonder if you'd consider an extention...Christmas and New Years being so busy...and painting takes a little more time...such a fun challange and more might jump in that way...

...only if it seems good!

Hello, River,

You have until noon on February 1 to enter this challenge--but if there are five new entrants by January 18, I'll submit a non-official entry--just for fun (and laughs). The purpose is to encourage you (and others) to start creating NOW (there's no better time). Just think, if you submit something by January 18, you still have time to submit another, more liesurely entry by February 1.

Uh... Question!

The rules were written in the singular "toy," butta, can the painting include or be of a grouping of toys and still qualify? or is that stretching their interpretation a bit?

Thanks!

Good question, Jeff. I'll accept a group of toys. I think that would fulfill the general intent of the challenge.

oh that's good, because the one I'm in the middle of has more than one - sort of... its a grouping of a few of the same kind of toy I should have it posted soon.

Holly

yes I do and he is in repair done by myself
he has an material body which has come undone by the legs through the years.
He was given to me by my dad who died when I was 4 years old and I was told that he(my dad) knew he wasn't gonna live long and named him the name he would have given my brother if he ever had a son.
He died shortly after that of cancer.
so Dirkie is very special to me.
